HELP!!!!!!!! My 9 week old son is constantly chewing his fists, drooling non-stop, will not drink his bottle without screaming in pain, but otherwise is happy and healthy, no temp or rash.He wants to feed but after a few sucks on the bottle starts screaming in pain and arching his back.I originally thought it was his throat but after seeing our doc & hospital they cannot see anything wrong, and suggest give him panadol to help him eat,he had his first immmunisation on Sunday and this started on Tuesday! The poor bub has been dosed up on Panadol since Sunday & i am reluctant to keep on giving it to him.Has anyone had any similar experiences or advice for us please ??

im not sure if this will be much help but when my boy was around that age and sometimes still does it my doctor said it was colic and i give him braure colic relief to try and settle him and it is a natural product so u dont have to use panadol and that used to work for me and i also and one end of the cot put phone books to rise one end of the cot so he is not laying flat... hope this is a little help.... hope he gets better...

It does sound like he may have reflux or colic, as Belinda suggested prop his bed up a bit, keep him upright after a feed (baby carrier is excellent!) and try Brauers relief, or you could see a doctor and they can prescribe something if these don't work. The drooling could be cause bubs is still learning to swallow and babies use their mouths too explore things, which might explain why everything ends up in his mouth... It is sooo hard to tell whether they are teething or not, Brayden gets whingy, drools and chews everything as well, so not sure?! :D

Hi Bailey's Mum,
My eleven week old son has been doing about the same thing as your little boy for a couple of weeks now - rubbing his gums, dribble everywhere and refusing to breastfeed and having big screams! - but it tends to come and go in fads, as such. Lots of people have told me he is too young to be teething but then apparently some babies are born with teeth!

When he has been really crying (he is normally very calm and laid back) I have given him Gripe Water thinking that it has been tummy pain which does seem to settle him but then when he keeps rubbing his gums I think it is teething again - so it is very confusing. I have kept a gel teether in the fridge and have tried holding it for him to chew or suck on and that also seems to settle him. This week though we have had one red cheek which I am told is a sign of teething - so I don't know!

But the gripe water and teething ring has definately helped my little boy.

Hope it might help to know that other people are in the same 'tear-your-hair-out &I-don't-know' boat!

Good Luck :)

Hi Bailey's Mum

My little guy started doing nearly exactly the same thing as Bailey about 4 weeks ago. All of a sudden started pulling on and off the boob....screaming and arching back...seeming hungary but like feeding was hurting him.

I had a CHN tell me that he had reflux but the doctor told me he had colic??? I ended up weaning him and he seems better on the bottle. Anyway the doctor suggested Infacol to us....it seems to help...he has a little spac every now and then but the Infacol seems to have settled him quite well.

Hope it is getting better!!

cheers
