Hi,

Just wondering if anybody has had the same problem as me.
My daughter had gastro when she was about 9 months old and ended up lactose intolerant. She was a really easy going baby but at about 16 months things started going down hill and I was up with her from about 10.30pm at night until 4am in the morning. She wouldn't scream just really unsettled. I noticed she was more unsettled after tomatoe and orange base things so my GP decided to try losec to see if that helped. After a couple of days on it she seemed to settle down but so did her lactose intolerance, she went from not being able to eat anything dairy unless it was lactose free into a baby that could eat most anything. Her poo went from being quiet runny to being normal. My GP left so I decided to go back and see the pead that diganosed her with the lactose intolenace and he was not happy she was on losec so he took her off it. Guess what, after 2 day off losec she is back to being lactose intolerant. She has been able to eat dairy and drink full cream milk for about the last 8 months and now I am back to her wearing 2 nappies . I have started her back on lactose free milk today and it has started to settle down. I will call my pead on Monday but I think he thinks I am dreaming.
Anybody had anything simliar happen or can offer any advise.
Thank you

I can't give you an answer, but can you please come back and update after you've seen your Dr. My DD is LI and I'm most interested to see if there is a link between that and Losec somewhere

Not a problem, I will let you know.
My GP believed she may have had over active acid in her stomache and that the losec reduced the acid there for helping with the lactose intolerance. We had her poo tested 2 weeks ago and that came up all clear so I am going to see if we can test her again this week.

Just on the poo test for lactose intolerance, don't always rely on them. My DD had two done, and one for cows milk protein intolerance: they all came back negative.
A hydrogen breath test was required to diagnose her lactose intolerance.
And it's an elimination diet (well, kinda.. we can't eliminate her formula, waiting on the paed in October for that bit) for the cows milk protein intolerance, but so far it's looking like she's probably CMPI as well. And interestingly enough I didn't know until last week that CMPI can actually cause LI.
It all makes sense in the end
