They put me on meds for it but I only developed it in the final 4wks of my pregnancy. They are slowly weaning my body back off the drugs now..

Hi Petals.
My mum has high bp when she was preggers with me so i kinda knew it may sneak up on me too and sure enough, week 23 i think it was I was at the hospital for a general pregnancy check up and my bp was something like 170/105. I was medicated for the whole of my pregnancy and I still am as sometimes it doesnt go away- in all seriousnless, it can be a big deal but if u are monitered carefully then all will be fine. Are you on meds for it? From about 25 wks on I was on fortnightly/weekly hospital visits as they will always check ur urine for protein to check for pre eclampsia. I worked up will 1 day before I gave birth and I was fine- I'm not sure u can lower ur BP through de stress etc? Your BP will lower and stabilise with medication. My son was born quite small at 37 weeks but it was not due to the high BP although high bp can give u small for dates babies so unless ur going private INSIST on growth scans and any decrease in bubs moving go to the hospital to have a trace done- i went a few times because i didnt think bubs had been very active and every time it was fine, but the midwives told me i could come in anytime to check and I did :) lol
You will be fine xxxx worrying over this wont change anything xxx
Hi Petalsinthewood ,
Dont stress to much hunni i have a high blood pressure it sits around 140/80 they put me on bp meds and that helped it heaps if you are worried or stressed you bp generally goes up at the time it is taken so I would not stress to much they will normally get you to come in weekly if they are worried about it just to do bp.
And On a good note it drops in your second trimester naturally but does tend to go up in your third trimester.
If you are really worried talk to your ob with you concerns good luck.

Hi Petals,
I had high blood pressure towards the end of my pregnancy and was hospitalised and put on medication to try and stabilise it.
I think you should see your GP or Ob to have your blood pressure checked regularly and to see if you need to go on medication to stablise it.
I was told that if your numbers go 30 above what they normally are then they will consider that pregnancy induced hypertension. It would be nice to know what your BP normally is as this might be "normal"for you and you might just need to be monitored more closely.
The Drs where concerned when my blood pressure was 140/90. When I was in hospital my BP went up to 160/110 (this was a midnight when I was half asleep) so I dont think "relaxing" will actually help if you do have pregnancy induced hypertension.
All I can recommend is that you go and see your Dr so that you recieve the appropriate treatment.
Ohhh and congrats on your pregnancy.

petals: I too have had PIH. in my first pg it started around 30w. Was hospitalized for 4 days just before 34w to go on meds and get it stabilized. I had my dd early due to the PIH. I am also pretty positive that in that pg my PIH was due to an underactive thyroid (if your TSH levels are too high it can cause PIH). In my last pg my BP started going wacky in week 38/39 and I was hoping for a VBAC so was desperate for it to get back into normal range so did a LOT of research. I found that eating two stalks (no more though as celery is high in salt) of celery a day helps to lower BP (something about the proper balance of sodium and potassium). I found this actually worked! Also tahini also lowers BP (found in hummus) so I'd eat my celery with straight tahini.
Accupuncture also REALLY lowers your BP. I was having accu to help bring on labour and the day I had an accu session on the same day i had a BP check my BP went all the way back to normal (120/70) where as it had been up in the 150s/90s. Pretty expensive to have to do all through your pg though.
Good luck and I'd be making sure your GP is looking for protiens in your urine too.

hi, i had high blood pressure too.. I was border line for the whole preg but got put on med's for it since week 30 but even on med's it got really scary high.. I was in hospital for the last 5 weeks of my preg ( i also had extreme gestational diabetes) so dont take chances get your doc to put you on med's and sounds like they are keeping a good eye on you.. Good luck.. Oh and i came off the medication when my son dylan was 2 months :)
