My daughter HATES tummy time.
She's four months old and guaranteed, if I put her on her tummy she'll start crying within 1 minute.
I asked a few friends of mine that have children and they all say its the same with their children - so I'm wondering:

Do ANY babies actually like tummy time?

DD HATED tummy time. The only way i could do it without her crying was to put her ontop of me lying front to front. She would never go on the floor on her tummy at all! But same as cheeze said, once they are able to roll DD loved it coz she could just flip over when she wanted.

no my DD HATES it aswell. screams the minute i put her down also. i dont make her go on her tummy any more coz a couple of my neice's and nephew's hated it and never ended up having much tummy time. and they all seem fine. Some people say that they wont crawl and stuff :ecomcity: but they all done it fine so im not to worried about DD.
Dont stress to much :)

DD can roll and also sit but loves nothing more then to be sitting. She doesnt like lying down much at all at one stage i think she forgot how 2 roll  but she got the hang of it again :p

I asked the paediatrician about this today.... coz my chn keeps drumming into me how important it is and ds hates it.
He said to not force him if he hates it, and that if you look at 18 month old kids, you cant tell which ones have had tummy time or not.

Yup  mine hated tummy time at 4 months and even now at 6 months doesn't like it too much either - I think once they can hold their head up for longer periods of time they don't mind it as much otherwise they find their head is too heavy to hold up and they hate that. :p

My son must be a freak,he actually prefers his tummy to his back most days. But tummy time doesnt necessarily mean you have to put them on the floor on their tummy,on your tummy is just as good. It really helps with the developement of their neck muscles. But if you just started by tummy to tummy while you are sitting down, then gradually went to you laying with bub on your tummy and eventually just move them of sideways til they are fully on the floor. It might work but all in all if it is too stressfull i wouldnt bother. If DS is having a day that he doesnt want to be on his tummy i will just make a point of him having plenty of sitting time in other toys and stuff.

I was about to say that I was talking about this same thing... then I realised who you are! :p

Cobey hates tummy time too, to the point that he flipped himself at 2 weeks because he gets all agro while he's down like that. (he still rolls tummy-to-back sometimes. normally it's a good flip)
He prefers to fall asleep being cradled rather than cuddled as well (but either is fine, he just prefers cradled) however he will fall asleep on me if we're both lying down! :)

my lil one hated tummy time too, she would stay there for maybe 30 seconds before starting to cry ... when she learnt to roll over she was much better and you couldnt get her off her tummy..... but i still made sure i gave her tummy time every day even if it was only a short time....

Oliver LOVED it to start with, then hated it, and now loves it again.

I have to do it for a few seconds at a time to start with though. If he gets grummpy i roll him back over and play with him for a bit then repeat. :)

Chanel loves tummy time now and is starting to roll and learn to move. I joined Gymbaroo and it is great as they promote time tummy and they say it helps their development. Maybe you could check it out?
Another trick I used when Chanel was young was to place her on her tummy and extend the time slowly but I would feed her only after tummy time so she associated tummy time with food!!

This sounds a little weird, but my DD only really enjoys tummy time when she's doing a nudie! Then she'll happily lie on her tummy, chatting to her toys for up to an hour! I've been washing a lot of towels lately

DS is four months and has always hated tummy time. I just kept trying every week and it's only the last couple of weeks that he has started to like it. He really lifts his head up high now and has a good look around.

My DS is 4 months and LOVES tummy time and has done since he was a few weeks old. He even rolled from his tummy to his back at 2 weeks and could hold his weight up by about 8! (do I sound like a bragging Mumma?!)

I wouldn't worry if your DD doesn't like it though, alot of the bubs in my mothers group hate it too (strangely most who hate it are girls?) and from what I've read they will start to like it eventually.

Maybe you could give her tummy time by having her lie on your or your partners tummy, chest to chest. We did that alot the beginning and I think it's one of the reasons my DS took to his tummy so quickly. Just an idea.

 I am SO GLAD.
Because I hate saying to people "Cobey's been rolling tum-to-back from 2 weeks" because they look at me like a fruitcake because "No baby ever can do that."
(mind you, he does it because he hates tummy time and throws himself over, a couple of itmes he's done it with no effort).

Nathaniel started rolling today - I got the shock of my life when he did it! :D He also rolled from tummy to back.
He used to hate tummy time - he'd get hysterical as soon as you put him down on his tummy, but we had a physio come to mothers group and she put the fear of god into me saying that if he didn't get enough tummy time he'd never crawl so I started to get really strict about it and just did short sessions of it 4 or 5 times a day. Pretty quickly it stopped being an issue. He now loves it but gets fed up after about 5 minutes - still, I imagine it must be quite hard work for them to hold their head up like that - a bit like doing push-ups! At least now when he's had enough he can just flip himself over.

i started my ds1 quite young with tummy time. he started at about 4 or 5 weeks old and i gradually made the time on his tummy a bit longer each time so he got used to it :) then eventually he was so used to it he would get cranky if he wasnt on the floor! once he started rolling at 3 months he spent alot of time playign on the floor :) the floor became his domain lol
