View Full Version : Induction 3rd time around
Have any of you been induced 3rd time around? I'm hoping to go before my doctor's predicted induction at 38 weeks (delivered my last 2 at 36 and 37 weeks), but he'll induce me at 38 if I don't as my baby will be too big.
Can anyone who has been induced on a thrid or later pregnancy give me an idea as to how long it took from the beginning of induction until delivery. I would especially like to hear from mother's who had previously gone early too, like me.

Ruth, I was wondering why you were induced at 36, and 37 weeks with your first two? Was it due to medical problems or did you have a private doctor?
I was induced with my firstborn at 37wks due to pre-eclampysia. She weighed 6lb 9oz.
My second dd was born naturally at 41wks. Weighed 9lb 1oz.
I was induced with my 3rd pregnancy when I was 6 days late....back when I had my dd (she is 19 now), you were induced by a drip. I was hooked up to this at 9am and my dd was born 3 hrs later....at midday. She weighed a wopping 10lb 2oz. I feel the drip was turned up way too fast. My dd was born not breathing and we had some anxious moments....I also suffered. I bruised heaps and had many stitches. This induction was just way too fast.
I had 2 other children 8 and 10 years later.......both induced but this time with the gel.....so much gentler than an oxytocin drip!!!......my 4th dd was born 6 hrs after the gel was inserted. She was a wonderful waterbirth.
I was also induced with our 5th child....our son....I was 6 days late and very big....he weighed 8lb 12oz so not overly big.....once again the gel was used but this birth was very long and difficult. My baby was in the posterior position...facing up.....I was in labour for 2 days. I had my water broken the 2nd day and he was then born 8 hrs later. My waters were meconium stained as my son had become distressed but all was well. He was a tired little man at birth...so was I!!!
I think many factors will influence just how long you will be in labour with an inducement be it your first one or your 5th...as in my case...if your baby isnt presenting in the perfect birth position it can make things so much more drawn out and painful!!! ;)
Casey, I actually wasn't induced the first 2 times, just went naturally early. The chances of me going early again are good, but because my first 2 were born good sizes, the doctor is keen not to let me go to term as he thinks the bub might end up a little too big for my pelvis (had lots of trouble fitting through the other 2!)

Hi,
I have been induced twice so far and I will probably be induced with this baby as well.
First inducement was done when I could not cope with the severe back pain caused by Luke being posterior. This was done at 38 weeks , I had my waters broken and then I was put on a drip when nothing happened in a couple of hours. I was then given a epidural for the pain. This was great relief as I then got a couple of hours sleep before the midwife came in and told me it was time to push.
I was also induced with my fourth child Jayden. The problem was he was overdue and didn't look like he was going to come naturally. The doctor told me that I was 5cm dilated and he said I could of been that for a few weeks. This time they only had to break my waters and then labour was full on. Jayden was also posterior that was why my waters had not broken and I was not getting any where in a hurry.
I am now 33 weeks pregnant with number 5 and with my history there is a good chance that I will have to be induced again.
