DS turned 9 months yesterday and has been suffering from major cough and cold which is his first time for it.

Has congested chest and nose blocked which becomes so severe that he cannot breast feed.

Trying to give formula but he doesnt take it. Taking solids but very little. I am very worried that less milk intake will dehydrate baby. Pumping doesnt help as it takes ages to fill evn 50 mls. But I have been doing that as much as possible.

Gave DS Baby Nurofen for 4 days after which went to doc and doc prescribed baby amoxocillin. I want to know if any of you have faced any side effects from these meds,, this morning I gave DS nurofen and amoxi and then after 35 mins gave cereals to baby for his brekkie.

After 10 mins he vomitted after coughing.

Should nurofen and panadol be given to baby on full or empty stomach?

Anyone faced similar side effects from baby amoxi?

I would take him back to your GP and ask for swabs of his throat to be taken for whooping cough

Firstly i'd say the vomiting was probably caused by the coughing it often happens in little buns especially if they are snotty their bellies fill with snot and mucous they have a coughing fit an it all comes out

Amoxicillin most common aide effects are nausea and vomiting and diorreah and rashes
I would be asking why the gp has diven bubby antibiotics for a cold. Has he had any sputum cultures or a cheat xray?

Paracetomal as long as you strictly follow the dosage instructions is safe
but try not to overuse it
use it when neccessary and generally if need be every 6 hours
but babies having fever is a good thing as it their body fighting off the infection
I generally don't treat it unless buns is very uncomfortable or the fever is over 38.5 degrees but that's just me

nurofen needs to be take with or after food as it irritates the lining of the gut

Fess nasal drops will help to unblock the nose
it's just salt water and it's good to clear bub up before feeding
another thing you could try is feeding with bub sitting up so facing you directly if that makes sense so the secretions aren't builing up in the nose

if he doesn't feed well and he doesn't have many wet nappies go back to the gp and get him checked out

nurofen is better generally on a full stomach, because it can lead to ulcers with repeated use. Some pharmacists wish baby nurofen was prescription only for this reason.

It sounds like the vomiting could have just been from coughing and the medication might be helping to loosen the phlegm - which will make him cough more and bring up more stuff - sometimes food is included if the gag reflex is set off when doing so.

amoxycillin I think is best used on a full tummy too, or just before eating, because it can make you feel nauseated.

I'd try swapping the schedule - aka feed the cereal then and amoxycillin at the same time, then half an hour later give the nurofen.
