Hi everyone
My little sister is coming over from New Zealand on the weekend to shop for her wedding gown in Melbourne. I am looking for some nice places to take her to. She is not wanting to get one made - more wanting some big shops where she can try on lots of dresses by different designers!
thanks for your advice!

There is a great bridal shop in Geelong, it's in Little Matlop Street.

Also, you might want to try the one in Bourke St Mall - if it's still there (haven't been in that part of the city for a long time!) but it's above the Katies store, right near The Body Shop.

Brunswick St and Sydney Rd have heaps too.

Just be warned though, with most places you do need to make an appointment. You just can't rock up and expect to try on dresses.

Just wanted to add that I'm pretty sure whatever dress your sister chooses, it will have to be made for her size. She won't be able to just buy one this weekend and take it back with her.

couldn't read this without saying please do not go to Brides of Melbourne. They have a huge selection but were so rude and unaccommodating to me. Also my friend from Mothers group just had the same problem. She left a deposit for a dress and they just avoided her calls and mesages and she ended up with no dress and down a few hundred dollars in lost deposit. Sorry for negativity just being honest!

I just got married and found my dress at fairytales on moony ponds. They were pretty good with service but the reason I edned up there was because they stocked the brand I liked essence. This was my dress:

I got it without the lace up back though I liked the simplicity of the invisible zip back.

Essence have some great gowns

:flowerz:good luck

Brides of Melbourne were rude to me too :thumbsdown:Especially since I was bigger, they were kinda like oh well, so sad - here are 3 ugly dresses but whatcha gonna do..

And the dress Ilike they were like no - you can't try it on because its far to small for you and no we can't get it in bigger unless you buy it...

I love Brides of Melbourne in the GPO building. You need an appointment, but they stock all designers and are really helpful.

I agree, most places you try the dress on in whatever size then they order one to be made for you.

If she wants one to buy on the spot, she would be better off looking for dress sales at places like Ferrari formal hire etc. or shops that are selling ex floor stock. Then she can take the dress home and get it altered in NZ.

Good luck, its lots of fun!

 not cool.

I know they are probably great for some people but they were terrible with customer service.
Think I had a 4.15pm appoint and store closed at 5pm, so I was last appt. They were running late so didn't get to me til 4.45pm and any only let me try on 2 dresses and wouldn't stay 1 minute past 5pm to help me. Then they said 3 months wasn't long enough to ship in the dress I wanted (same one I ended up getting)... so I went to Fairytales and they said, yes its tight for time, but no biggie, we'll get it express posted, done!

Sorry I am :ecomcity: rambling.
