I'm not sure if this is where to post this or not but hoping someone can shed some light on this for me. I currently have my certificate III in children services and my daughter attend a small country school of about 50 students. The governing council regularly suggests how good it would be if we had an OSHC programme as it would help out some of the current families after school and in the school holidays .... but more importantly it would enable more families to use the school as they would then be able to have their children cared for until they finish work in the afternoon instead of having to take their children to a different school nearer to their work in the bigger towns or one that has an OSHC pragramme already.

So at this stage I had been applying for accreditation to do Family Day care as I live less than 500 metres from the school. But I am having second thoughts as I am starting to fear the energetic school age children terrorising my house and my 3 young children's toys etc.

So my next thought was maybe I can look into further qualifications and consider starting up an OSHC programme at the school for the 5-12 year old's and on the side run part time family day care during the school hours for baby's and toddlers etc.

But I've done some research today and discovered that an OSHC service can be run by the governing council or ALTERNATIVELY it can be privately run. But I can only find heaps of info on how to start and manage the Governing Council style ones and absolutely nothing on privately run ones and how they work and if they can be run from a school site etc.

Does anyone know if there is a national or state based governing body I can call or read their website to learn more? Or has anyone started one up or worked for one (either style) that can tell me more about OSHC? I have never used the service myself as my eldest has only started school in April this year. So I feel completely clueless :o

Sorry that was so long winded :ecomcity:
