Hi I have gd and have read alot bout it and most stuff I've read says they will induce early if u have gd...
Who knows if this is the case or does it depend on each person?
I have a growth scan on tues as they said bubs is measuring 5 weeks ahead!! So I'm kinda worried baby is gonna be too big!!

I had gd and was told I'd have to be induced, but it depended on how big i was measuring. at my last appointment i was booked in for an induction at 40 weeks as bubs was measuring ok, but i went into labour on my own at 38 weeks. They generally don't let you go past 40 weeks and if bubs is measuring big, they will induce.

I have GD and my fundel height is measuring 3cm ahead had a sizing scan and he was spot on the red line so normal/average size, the ob said to me at this stage i will be let go to 40 weeks but if his size changes it will be anywhere from 37 to 39 weeks depending on size, i think i am having another sizing scan at 34 weeks

Hi Mum22boys. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes a couple of weeks ago, at about 33 weeks, even after a normal GTT result at 29 weeks! My obstetrician is kinda fussy (but lovely) and made me check my levels again anyway, mainly due to a) my previous pregnancy I had GD, b) my second pregnancy I had a 4.5kg baby and c) my parents and brother are diabetics... LOL.

So yes, I saw a diabetes specialist and she put me on insulin a couple of weeks ago, so Ive been on insulin injections 4 times a day. And my sugar levels are not even all that bad, mainly my fasting levels that are strange.

Anyway, I am apparently having another large baby (this is my 4th). On Monday, I was 35 weeks and my fundal height measured 41cm. However, I have extra fluid so that contributes to some of that. I have had a fetal growth scan done, and she measures to be quite large, but not overly so (maybe just 4kg at term). I am getting induced at 38 weeks or thereabouts.

I also have pre eclampsia too, so that doesnt help. But thats pretty mild too.

From my experience the obstetricians tend not to let you go much past 38 weeks, ESPECIALLY if you are on insulin. I wasnt on insulin with my last pregnancy even though I had GD, and I was allowed to go to 40 weeks, and was induced, but my doc was reluctant back then. I have been told things have changed and they are stricter on that now.

I guess if you have GD, you have some chance of going to 40 weeks, but if you are on insulin and/or have another problem, then its very unlikely. Its not just due to having a big baby either, although thats a big part of it. The extra glucose causes problems with the baby in addition to extra weight, and they can be born quite unhealthy with uncontrolled diabetes so its a few things.

If you arent on insulin, and you dont have any other problems, and your baby is a good size and appears healthy then yeah, maybe 40 weeks!

Good luck!!!
