Fully weaned - How long until my milk disappears?

Ok, Andrew has been toying with the whole weaning from the breast thing for the last month-ish. We have been down to 1 feed a day for the last 3 weeks, but for the last week and half it has tended to be only once every second day.

But we've now had 3 days straight without a feed and I think this may be the end of our 18 mth relationship (very bittersweet).

So my question to those wise women who have gone before me is......when can I expect that my milk supply will leave me? Because we've been weaning gradually, I haven't been engorged and definitely not leaking, its not a problem to still have it there. But I am just curious as to when it may leave for good.

I'm not sure but I think I've heard of it staying around for even months after weaning - is this true?

Not that it really makes a difference, I am just curious! We are TTC #2 and my AF is still absent, so I am hoping the full weaning thing might help us along in that department :)

When i weaned dd my milk stayed for about 4 months but slowed down alot.I got my af back 4 weeks after i stopped bf.

Its been 2 days over 2 weeks since i have completely stopped BF.. they were very sore and full for a week and a half, and are only settling down now, im hoping in the next week or 2, i wont have anymore milk.

It could be all gone in as little as a week or you could still have some in a years time (I still have some and it's been just over a year now :) It totally depends on your body.
Since you weaned gradually I'd say by about a month or so your breasts may look a little less full than they do now but you shouldn't really suffer any discomfort or engorgement etc.

Noo, I had to wean due to lack of supply and with still 2 feeds a day, my milk completely dried up within three days of making the decision! No wonder my little man was hungry! So i don't know if my experience can really help???

Some women can express milk from there breasts for years after weaning. My last son went off at march 2005 and I still have a few drops.

An article I read about full term breastfeeding (extended BF which is over 2 years) suggested that when a woman has stimulated breastfeeding longterm she need only put a baby to the breast to resume lactation....pretty handy our boobies eah!

Firstly, :hugs: to you Noo. It can be such a strange time when your baby is weaned. The end of something so precious but also the beginning of a whole new part of your journey as a mummy. If nothing else, it is certainly a time to reflect on the whole journey of pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, baby milestones etc...
I was still able to squeeze a bit of milk at least 6 months after weaning DS#1 at 14.5 months. DD self weaned so I was pretty much 'dry' within a couple of weeks of her having her last feed.
