My darling 8 month old has mastered tantrums :devil6: and I thought they started when they were two! Unfortunately I laugh (coping mechanism kicking in) when she throws a tantrum as the face is priceless I could win a prize on funniest home video's
I love any advice on how you handle your little one's tantrum ? And more so when you are alone, tired and don't have the energy

At that age, I would just ignore it. It is for attention, be it negative or positive attention. Plus they are starting to realise that they can have a say on how their lives are run.

In about 6mths or so, try using the naughty corner. Consistancy is the key.

I do the same, just laugh lol

DD's started to kick up a stink when she doesn't get what she wants or I have to take something off her...

If it really becomes unbearable, I just walk away. If I haven't reached insanity by that point I hide behind a wall and wait for her ... then yell "BOO" lol She forgets and starts laughing and wants to play with her toys :D

...I'll have to change technique as she ages though

mumforone!!!! thats what I do.......

I went to a seminar in relation to this subject and at this age, best to ignore them! Unless of course they are going to hurt themselves somehow, are going to damage property or someone else (mum's included  )

Mine didn't start that early - thank god! - but she does them pretty frequently now and I just walk away and let her go for it.

I was a shocking tantrum thrower as a child, I did it until I was about 7 or 8. And I remember that nothing annoyed me more than having my audience (usually my mother) walk out on a performance. It made the whole thing pretty pointless LOL.

My DD is 5.5 months is starting to learn about tantrums - man they are quick to learn that hey!

TIRED & RESTLESS TANTIES

When she tries it on with me I change my tone of voice as a warning, if it continues I look at her and say her name and say "that's naughty" in a calm but firm voice.

It usually subsides with that, but if not I remove any pillows she is sitting against and let her shout out on her back (which is completely boring for her now) for 1-2 minutes by which time she either starts singing or falls alseep.

FEEDING TIME TANTIES

If she needs a feed and kicks up a fuss because she wants it straight away when I bring the bottle to her I will not give it to her until she stops. I will have it in front of her mouth so she knows she will get it but she does not get a reward for screaming and shouting. I have been doing that since she went to bottle about 2 months ago. It works.

TOY DROPPING TANTIES

I will pick it up for her once. After that if is within her means I will sit with her and say " Come on, you can see it.... you know where it is, you can get that". I will give her encouragement and tell her she is doing really well when she is getting closer and when she gets it she is congratulated. If a tantie starts because she can't be bothered I will just let her figure it out herself and to date she has always got it.

I agree, consistency is definitely the key.

i'm glad my ds isn't the only child that is doing it. i thought he was an exception and was a trait from his father:banghead: . Ds has being doing it for months and months and is a true little attention seeker.

i will definately be trying a few of your tips as well. thanks:fingerscrossed:

I just tell DS that a tantrum isn't going to get him anywhere and leave him to it. they dont last too long which is good and it's only mainly crying at the moment too. although once he lay himself down on the floor on his tummy and slapped his hands on the tiles at the same time. very cute tantrum.
