View Full Version : Bank Accounts
I would like to set up bank accounts for my children and put a bit in now and again for them so at age 18 they have a bit of money behind them. Can anyone recommend some good accounts for children or know a link where comparisions between the banks have been made???
Thanking you in advance

Hi!
I used to work for CBA, and I know a bit about about all banks kids acc's, you should not pay any fees and you should get a fairly decent interest rate back on the money. Theres no real signifigant diference between the banks...just personnal preferance really.
Hope this helps

We use INGDirect (saving account type) for the three of us-esp for Thomas when he turns 18 he will get a big surprise LOL, and NAB for our main banking and its Cash Accelerator is fantastic!
Hope this helps :)

NAB have just started a special kids account. Not sure if the interest is better or different to the other banks, they'll send you a pamphlett if you ring them.
There is an organisation called the Australian Scholarships Group. A few of my work colleagues use it and swear by it. The web address is www.asg.com.au
Certainly worth having a look!

We have accounts for our twins there and they have a great rate and there are no fees I think because it is online or no big ones that is!
Look them up.

I have been looking into the INGDIRECT one as well. Does anyone know in general if you are charged for transferring money from a different bank to the INGDIRECT one? I bank with Suncorp.
Oh, and occasionally the ING one will have a $15 starting account incentive on.
ING don't charge you for transferring money IN or OUT of their account. What happens, is you set up one regular account for money to be transferred in and out from. In this case, you could set it up as your Suncorp account.
ING - no fees at all, and great interest - I say go for it! It has been a godsend for us, enabling us to save money where before we struggled to. Its great to have ING money 'out of sight' so to speak, and we accumulate great interest without much effort at all.
