I grew up in HK and it is one of my fave places on earth.
Would he look at working at a local school or an international school ??
While HK is great for teachers - it can be a very expensive place to live (rentals are HUGE).
I would try and get some sort of rental assistance in your package.
Will you be working also ???
You can live very cheaply but buying things that remind you of home can be expensive.
It would be a FABULOUS experience and you would NEVER regret making the move - if you are open to moving overseas then also look at mainland China - Pay is more and rental is cheaper. BUT you cant go wrong by living in Honkers - it ROCKS !!!
GOODLUCk and feel free to ask me any questions - I will try and help as much as I can

My DH was born there. I think he'd go back in a flash.
What would you like to know? I can ask him when he gets home if you like.
My freinds dad lives over in hong kong and has so for a good 10years now he loves it. Hope you's make the right choice and if you's do decide goodluck with it all:yelclap:
wow thanks for the responses!
the package his internship teacher was telling him about, included accomodation allowance, she chosee to use hers by actually living a hotel a pretty fancy one at that..
um, also that there was a bonus of 50 grand for every 2 yrs u signed on for... seems like its too good to be true!
my youngest is 1 so i dont think i would work, (i dont exactly have many qualifications) i dont know if that would make it heaps harder or not.. this was 5 yrs ago, she said that the school she taught at were so warm and welcoming they still send her birthday gifts every year and all the students kept trying to take her out after school for ice cream <3 sounds so lovely...

It looks like we might be moving to Hong Kong for DH work. He is in the financial services industry. I have a 2 year old and a 2 month old. I would love to hear other peoples experiences of living in Hong Kong and any recommendations for moving there with young children. thanks

My parents go there every year for six months of the year to teach. They have accommodation included in their package so they don't have to worry about renting etc. MummaFug is right - you can live cheaply but some things are very expensive...such as rentals especially those that geared to "western standards". I have visited HongKong and "the mainland" (China..northern and southern). Life is very, very different outside HongKong and you've really got to watch yourself with the officials etc but it truly is an amazing country. Learn the language if you can.
