I just heard the other day that if your baby has lactose free formula you can get a perscription from dr and get it cheaper... is this true? and is it only certain ones or just the same ones you get off the shelf? (we use S26 LF now)
and does the baby have to be properly tested for lactose intolerance before you can get the perscription? or is there any other requirements?

Ds2 is off to the drs for 4mth needles/check in the next week or two but was wondering if anyone on here knows.
Thanks

You can but it requires testing & approval from Canberra.

DD1 is LI, we looked at getting scripts, testing etc but in all honesty, it wasnt worth it. We just bought it off the shelf.

Both of my kids had it on script and neither were tested at the time.

Yes it needs approval but that was the doctor on the phone for a few minutes while I sat in the room with him - its was no big deal at all.

My kids were on the S26 lactose free formula but my sister used the heinz lactose free on script as well.

As we both had HCC we paid around $4 for 5 tins.

I had a presciption for dd1 for lactose free and it got us 5 tins for the price of 1 ,the gp just wrote a script.

My DD is LI, she needed a paed diagnosis via hydrogen breath testing to get the PBS authority to get it on script.

Well worth it, I paid $5.50 for 5 tins, not $19.55 per tin(Karicare De-Lact)
