Hi! I'm new to Bub Hub :)
I'm pregnant for the second time. When not pregnant, I usually have a BP of about 140/90, but with my first pregnancy it dropped to 120/80 till about 32 weeks when it slowly started to rise. Had my baby by cesarean at 36 weeks after a week in hospital. Started taking antihypertensives (labetalol, methyldopa, nifedipine) from 35 weeks. Will is now 2 1/2 and a big strong healthy boy (despite being 6 pounds 7 at birth).
This time, my essential hypertension has not gone down like it did in my first pregnancy (it has actually risen) and I have just been put on labetalol at 19 weeks. I was not put into hospital this time, and will be monitored by obs and physician every 1 to 2 weeks. I am getting random swelling and generally feel pretty unwell.
It's making me very anxious not being monitored in hospital for the beginning of this medication. I am feeling a bit dizzy, and have headaches - particuarly in the first 4 hours of taking the tablet.
Anyone else taken labetalol long term in pregnancy? Any side effects? Feeling a bit alone here and would love some support :no:
