Hi everyone ... Just a quick one. Ds is teething and I've got bonjella - didn't buy it, mist have been in a present or hamper I got when he was born. Anyway, I heard that it isn't good to use it but obviously all the grandparents used it on us.

So. Why shouldn't I use it? And who has used it?

I have it too and we all used it growing up :( I think it's the alcohol in it that people don't like?

We used it. Just make sure it's the one for teething, not for mouth ulcers. The mouth ulcer one is stronger and not for baby mouths.

I have heard it can damage the nerves on your gums... I am not really sure though. I personally don't think it does anything;)
...
I don't think it works! It sounds like I am saying I don't think it damages gums!!

I know some babies in the UK died from something that was in it a couple of years ago, they were telling people to not use it under 16 years. that's why I steer clear.

that is the mouth ulcer gel, not the teething gel. There was a big confusion over it awhile back.

sh!t.. and after doing some reading I just realised that the other teething gel, Sedagel, contains Choline salicylate, the ingrediant that is the main concern in the other one :(:hair: I've been using that for ds.

Bin the Seda Gel & try SM33

I have wisdom teeth coming through, used one on each side & SM33 worked better.

I don't get it.. the adult one is meant to have the choline salicylatee but in looking at the ingredients the infant gels do too ?

I am hoping this amber teething necklace I ordered works well and then I will ditch all gels

its also not recommended on small babies as it numbs their gag reflex
which means they can coke or not bring up things they need to

not something i have used on either of my kids
i love their teething necklace
and teething tablets work great

there are so many better options out there on the market

I used bonjela when DS was teething and it seemed to help him straight away.

I also used it interchangeable with herbal, dis-solvable tablets. Normally, I'd try the tabs first than if he was still unhappy I'd give the bonjela a go.

Bonjella doesn't actually have a numbing agent in it - it just soothes the gums. SM33 does numb the gums. I found it worked heaps better, although this time I'm going to try the amber teething necklaces -heard so many good stories about them.

When DD went for her first check up at the dentist, her teeth were perfect. The dentist asked what we'd been doing because it's apparently not too common to see such perfect teeth on a child at that age from this area.

Apparently one of the biggest things that rots teeth as they grow is Bonjella. It can even cause damage to the adult teeth.

i never used it with my 3 girls.. they never needed it.. however i tried it with my son who cant have panadol/nurofen(he vomits as soon as it touches his tongue). ofcourse he touched the bonjel with his tongue and vomited then too. that was the last of that!

poor kid has to suffer through teething/temps/sickness purely coz he cant keep the stuff down! next step is suppositories but i will avoid them unless absolutely necessary! im just hoping he outgrows this quickly.. my oldest was the same till 2.5yrs.. he's 20months atm..

I used bonjella when DD was smaller and teething. seemed to soothe her gums and provide her with some relief.
