I've just found out I was pregnant and have had several nights out drinking excessively (I calculated I would have been 12 days pregnant the last time I drank). :(
I'm finding lots of scary stuff online and concerned about the risks of FAS. Does anyone have any info or know exactly how much risk I've put baby at? I plan to make an appointment with my doctor asap but am really anxious and can't sleep.
I would really value some honest info and opinions...
Well to put your mind at ease when I fell pregnant with my DD I was doing alot more than drinking, she was 9 pound 4 and very healthy and she is now 16 and doing top guns in school and life, I also think for memory nothing goes through the baby until at least dont quote me 8 weeks but not in the first few weeks I know that for sure.. So DONT Stress at all and go get sleep bubs and u need it ;)

Think of it this way - how many women so you think have done exactly the same thing not realizing they've been pregnant? LOTS!! Not every pregnancy is planned :)
don't stress. FAS is much more commonly a result if prolonged alcohol abuse during pregnancy, so no more drinkies and I reckon all will be fine!
Congratulations :)

My doctor says not to stress about things that happened before you found out you are pregnant. More likely to have issues for long term or excessive alcohol use then a few drinks before you knew. xxx
Hi victoriat and congrats on your pregnancy :) :hugs:
My friend drank heavily and partied hard (as in used other drugs too) before she knew she was pregnant. She was just over 10 weeks when she found out.
She gave birth to a healthy 8.1 pound girl and never had a problem during the birth or her pregnancy.
Sooooo many women do this hun, they worry about things they've done before knowing they were pregnant. I'm sure everything will be fine. Enjoy your pregnancy :)

Hi Erin94, Lambkin, Crazyfamily and Pinkvanillaz,
Thank-you all so much for sharing your stories and thoughts, it has really helped put my mind at ease. I've been up since 3 am stressing about it!
I also rang Nurse On Call early this morning and the person I spoke to made me feel awful; she told me that there was no safe period to drink alcohol from conception and started rattling on about FAS symptoms. I told her that I had researched the symptoms but wanted a better idea of how much risk I'd put my baby at....it was so distressing.
I know I need to see a GP now, I don't have a good GP to go to either, I've no idea what to do really. Can anyone from Melbourne recommend a good GP? I'd be happy to travel. :)
I feel a lot better after reading all the replies: thanks again everyone!

Silly woman. My OB was never worried about that - particularly so close after conception. And my frie3nd the peadiatrician says its has a lot more to do with drinking continually after the 6 week mark.
And for what its worth - I was drinking daily cocktails on Hamilton Island during a holiday when I found out I was pregnant. ANd my baby is just fine.,

Hi Jender,
Thanks for sharing yours and also the info you were given by your OB and pediatrician too. It is relieving to say the least! :)

My ex(almost)SIL had a blood test to check if she was pregnant. Doctor said it was negative. She went out on a bender that night and got completely smashed. Doctor rang a few days later and told her they mixed up her blood test and she was actually pregnant. Think she was about 3months along.
Both she and her son were fine.
