has anyone ever used a menstrual cup? http://www.babybeehinds.com.au/store/pc/Lunette-Menstrual-Cup-Size-2-4p36.htm
At first I thought there is no way I would use anything like that, but I think there may be something to it afterall.
There was a thread about this a few months ago now I think...
The idea of it grossed me out then and it still does now  I've never used a tampon in my life, and I never would...so there's no way I'd even go near one of those things.
Yep. Its fantastic. There is a whole section of Bubhub dedicated to cups and cloth, have a look around :)

I think I would but ttc right now - so maybe in like 2 years when I'm getting regular periods again ;)
Yes, i'm in love with my cup.
It's not gross at all!
Sorry, I couldn't help but laugh at the little sentence under your name

i've been using that line since i first got my cup ;) code that stops the boys knowing what i'm talking about when i realise i'm leaking  [admittedly, only my inner circle of friends get it - everyone else is a bit puzzled <3]
and yes, i have a cup - its not gross - what's gross is using chemicals on that area, but ya know - clearly just different opinions :p
i adore my cup. i have over 10 converts (both online and offline) and i recommend it to everyone i meet because its literally the best thing in the world

I have read of women suiting particular brands, so maybe another brand will work for you...also, could it have been the sizing? Some women who have given birth still only fit the smaller size.

Yeah it was probably a sizing issue

Whoops!
Sorry, I didn't mean the cup was gross, don't really know what I meant actually. I used to use tampons but I really can't stand the thought of them anymore. I have a mirena atm but will be getting it out soon so the cup is something to think about once af darkens my door again.
reminds me of something that happned at work a couple of weeks ago. in the staff room before we started this otehr chick had a travel mug of i dunno coffee i supppose and it had a bit of a leak and she said 'my cup's leaking' and i actually laughed out loud. thankfully she thought i was laughing at the news (there's a tv in the staff room)
Can I ask the people here who use cups, had you ever used tampons before using them?

I don't use a cup, but LOVE radpads/moonpads any reusable pads. Might sound weird to say "LOVE" them but they really have stopped me dreading my period. I hated dealing with it prior using them, now it's just easy and feels much more natural.
Go for it. So much better for you/the environment/your budget/everything!

Yep.
Tampons didn't hurt me, but the fact that they are filled with chemicals repulses me.
Also, there is no link between the cup and TSS, plus you can leave a cup in for longer :D

i LOVE my diva cup!
its one of the best things i have ever bought
i also love my cloth pads to
Cups are the BEST things EVER!!!! I love mine so so so much!! Which I had discovered them years ago!!
I recommend LadyCup. I have a small size for light flow, and large size for heavy flow. They both fit fine!
I have a Diva Cup. Best thing I've ever bought. Although next time I need a new one I'm going to try the smaller size as I think it's slightly too big for my body.
I actually don't find it gross at all, I know it's hard to get used to because in Aus we've only used disposable period products but I find it much less gross to clean and sterilise something as opposed to having blood-stained things sitting in the bin/landfill.

yep love my mooncup. i hate wearing pads and tampons now that i have used a cup. the main sucky thing about after childbirth is that i can't wear my cup.

Yes I only ever used tampons as I hate the mess with pads. I decided to convert though as I was getting thrush EVERY period. Now I don't get it!
Cups are awesome. I too wish I had known about them years ago.
BTW I have a Lunette.

a menstrual cup is literally a silicone or (there's another material they use as well - can't remember what. some form of rubber?) flexible cup that is used instead of a tampon.
um, my favourite websites (don't infract me if they're on the 'no-no' for posting list :o the rules confuse me)
Labyrinth (http://www.labyrinth.net.au/%7Eobsidian/clothpads/Cups.html) - because it gives a really good overview of the different brands, plus their pros and cons.
and the potentially, infractible, blogspot about cups (http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/tag/faq).
end of the day - its a girls best friend (after diamonds...although i'd rather my cup than a diamond :p). No risk of infection, no messy disposing of products. no risk of clogging a drain cause you're too embarrassed to throw the tampon away, so you flush it. and reduced cramping.
check on the cloth pad mum section of bubhub - we (*cough* no i'm NOT the only one -shifty eyes-) do a lot of posts there about why we love our cups so much :p
I am wanting to use a cup when I get my period back! I am a little nervous though.., are they hard to insert?? I haven't bought one yet so what do you all recommened?

um, its a learned skill. its not hard - but it does require you to become a bit more aquainted with your female parts than a pad or tampon would?
i love my lunette, but apparently there's another one thats a lot softer, so better for a first time user (i think it was the uk mooncup?).
check out the cloth pad mum section - there are several threads where we've compared what we do or don't like about the cup's we've got.

Some people take a while to get the hang of it (much like when you use a tampon for the first time), and some take to it straight away. I was the latter. I found it was quite easy, although i'm not sure if that would have been the case pre-DS. The folds are very simple and easy to master, and it's just a matter of sliding it in and ensuring it 'pops' open properly and is sitting firmly in place with no warped gappy bits (ok - someone come along and explain this better please :p)
I like the Lunette and the Meluna :)

What do you do wash it?
Is it a cup that holds blood, or does it absorb ?
How does it come out?
All I can picture is a cup that fills up with blood and when you pull it out spills... Bluhh
I am intrigued... I dislike pads and tampons..

um, water and soap? (well i boil it between AF's and scrub it clean).
it holds blood - no absorbing, hence no risk of infection etc.
to make it come out, you have to squish the bottom of the cup to break the seal, and then ease it out - it takes practice, but i only spill it on SUPER heavy days (where i tend to leak anyway - because i get lazy and just use a cloth pad so i don't have to change it at uni).
i'm really weird about changing my cup. i like to have a sink right next to me so that i don't have to tip the blood in the toilet (i have a little brother with mild ASD who freaks at bodily fluids - so i try to hide the evidence for his sanity). and it just means that i'm so used to being able to rinse the cup before i re-insert it that i do struggle in public a little bit.
but toilet paper or cloth wipes are totally fine for a day-time cup change till you get home. or the shower is another good place to change it at home.
its only messy while you're getting the hang of it

Hmm I think I might look into,
Shower sounds like a great place to start taking it out!! Don't want to make a mess!
Thanks for the advice:)

Admittedly I found removal trickier to learn than the inserting part. But it's pretty easy to get the hang of before long.
Call me weird, but I find it quite fascinating that it collects blood, and not gross at all. The whole thought of trying to remove it and spilling it everywhere is something I used to picture as well in my pre-cup days, but my curiosity grew and grew, and before I knew it I was using a cup and loving it too :D (and not spilling!)
I usually tip mine straight down the loo, and I prefer a sink nearby as well because it's easier to give it a quick rinse

I am a recent convert and am on AF #3 using it! and I am finding it fantastic.
For me it doesn't really shorten my AF or make it less painful but AF only lasted 4-5 days and now it is 4 days and I usually only have minor back ache *ducks*
I wore it camping last month and it was fantastic not to have to worry about changing tampons every few hours I jsut trotted off to the loo twice and that was it :smiliedance:
I lke the close sink too (the kids loo has one so I tend to change it in there if I can) or after day one I just do it morning and night in the shower.
I am officially a MimiGrace convert!:goodvibes:
