Has anyone had their baby at Darwin public?

I've heard good things about the private hospital in Darwin but as this isn't an option for me I would love to hear from anyone that has been to the public hospital?

I find it so different from where I had my first baby and had planned to have my second until DH got a new job. Every time I go there I leave in tears, it's silly really but I can't seem to help it.

My cousin had her baby in Darwin Public Hospital and I visited her in there. The nurses were lovely but if I remember correctly they kick the partners out during non visiting hours (I could be wrong - so double check that one with the hospital).
Her bub had complications and had to have a drip but was very well looked after.

I had my first daughter at Darwin public and was very happy. I went to all my ante-natal appts with my gp, I had 2 I think I had to have at the hospital, both times waited for so long but I think it's like that everywhere. I found the midwives to be really lovely esp on the postnatal ward. I can't remember if my husband was allowed there outside visiting hours but I think he was, but had to leave before 10pm I think. Apparently the new birth centre is great if you are low risk and can get in there?
