Well it's good news from the FS
AMH is 35 and I had plenty of follicles on my day 3 count.
He said that he only gets to deliver news this good to women my age about 3 times a year:yelclap:
So, I'm sat there thinking 'cool' then he goes on to say that I need to have an HsG to check my tubes and DH's SA when he gets back(he's overseas) and then we can start IVF in Sept! :eek:I must have looked a bit shocked because he said I could try IUI first, it depended on how long I wanted to wait....
So I've come home and brooded for a bit... Yeah it would be great to get my BFP in September.... Heaven knows I've been waiting long enough, but whatever happened to well, we'll try this then we'll try that, THEN we'll go to IVF.
So, my question is:
What are your FS's recommending?
Who's tried what?
Is IVF as horrid as I'm led to believe?
TIA for any replies! :flowerz:
Hi Alipally, I've just had my second (unsuccessful) IUI cycle and the plan is to try for one more cycle then have laparoscopy then I assume IVF. I had a sonohysterogram a few months ago, not sure if that's the same as HCG, and my tubes were fine (and I didn't find the procedure at all painful though I know some do).
I think the success rate for IUI isn't that high, around 15%, but it makes sense to try it first given it is less invasive and less expensive, but generally if people are going to have success with it, it happens in 3-4 months. I think most people go on to have IVF anyway, so given your age I guess your doctor just wants to save time. Can't help you with stories on what IVF is like I'm sorry... good luck :)

Hi Ladies...could you tell me is the AMH test the one they do on day 21? If it is...my results were 67 and then 37 and my age is 41!!! We have to keep trying the Clomid for another 5 cycles then we will try IUI and then it will be quits for us, also can you tell me is the IUI expensive...I've been told $2000 and then told $700....??? Good luck to you both :)

P.S ...I've got a friend who has been trying for six years and has just given birth to twins, a boy and a girl through IVF...there's a nice positive for us all :yelclap:
MissCelie my IUI's have been $670 with $500 back from medicare each time, so only $170 out of pocket each cycle. Not that bad really when you consider that includes your doctor's time both for the procedure and at least 1 consult around day 11, scans and blood tests. I'm on clomid too which is around $30 for 2 months worth.
I wonder why you've been told you have to try clomid for so many months? I was just reading the blurb that came with the packet of tablets and even on there it says that if it doesn't work in 3-4 months it's time to try something else.

hi alipally,
i think u mean hsg not hcg. hcg is a hormone u have when u are pregnant. a hsg is when they put dye in your fallopian tubes to see if they are blocked.
not a pleasant experience but it doesnt last long.
i have done 2 unsuccsessful iui cycles 4 stimulated ivf cycles and 1 frozen embryo transfer. i got 1 bfp out of all of those cycles which resulted in my healthy baby boy.
personally i think we wasted ur money on the iui as that is 2k that could have gone towards ivf.
best wishes whatever you decide.

Well spotted Heatherm! I did mean HSG it was a mistake on my part!
I'm having it on Thursday this week and DH will be doing his sample next week... Who would have known that flying across time zones is bad for your count!?
Our appt is on 25th August. So I guess that we'll decide what we're going to do when we have to full picture.
