View Full Version : how much? Just curious......
Hi all. My dd is almost six months old and is being bottle fed. She takes five bottles a day of approx 210ml, but sometimes less.
Does anyone else have a bub of a similar age?
How many bottles a day do they have?
Are they eating solids yet? How much and when?
What about naps. How many daytime naps does your bub have?
Thanks,
dee dee

Hi there,
Tayla is almost 7 months and we are struggling to get her to have her bottles at the moment - ever since we started solids 2 weeks ago. She has up to 5 bottles a day where only 1-2 feeds are 160ml and the rest we are lucky to get 100ml into her. She has rice cereal and pear twice a day now and scoffs that all down. Probably has the equivalent of 3-4 tablespoons.
As for the naps, well, she has never been a good day sleeper and was sleeping through the night but now wakes up twice wanting a feed as she obviously doesn't drink enough during the day although she is offered it constantly. WE get 2 naps of 20 - 40 minutes and probably 5 out of 7 days we will get a 1.5 hour nap in there too.
Basically she has NO routine and changes things daily!!!

At 6 months I was offering 6 bottles a day of 240ml. DD wouldn't quite finish them, sometimes only want half of one. We started rice cereal for breakfast, switched pretty quick to the banana flavoured one as she hated the plain.
3 naps a day, 1.5 hours each tho it dropped to 2 naps a day between 6 & 8 months I think.
My bub is 6 1/2 months......she's only just starting regularly finishing the bottles made up from 180mls (makes about 200 mls in total). She has 5 in 24 hrs usually - but like I said - until a week or so ago, might only have 120 - 160 mls of the bottle.........it's quite okay - it's a myth that bottle fed babies need special attention in this regard - they will drink what they need - some need more, others less - different days, different amts! not any diff to breast fed babies......
Naps - She usually has 2 now.......wakes about 5am but I leave her to play in her cot and she doses adn plays till I'm ready to get up - usually about 6.30am - 7am ;) She is ready for nap again around 9am and depending on the day will have 1-3 hrs (usually about 1 1/2-2 hrs).........then she's awake again until about 2.30pm - 3pm......it's harder to get her down for the afternoon one, even though she's clearly tired.........if she goes down again it's 1 - 3 hrs. No rhyme or reason as to why some days she seems to want to sleep all day - other days - 2 30 min naps is all she'll do!!!???!!
However, she has bath at ~6pm, bottle and extended cuddle, then usually crashes around 7.30pm routinely now.
She has started on solids a few weeks ago - but I don't push them. some days she'll have 3 times, other days once. Depends on her sleep, bottles and mood. Milk is still priority #1 till 12 months. I usually get "breakfast" into her around 8am, then dinner around 5pm - but lunch depends on the naps.
Hope this helps?

My DD Raleigh is now 5 months old. She generally takes anywhere between 180 - 250ml depending on how she's feeling. I usually make up 250ml bottles just in case. Her general routine is as follows:
6/7am Morning feed (approx 200ml)
7am-9.30am early morning nap
9.30am 3 tablespoons of baby food plus 180ml bottle
10.30/11am Sleep
1.30/2pm 200-250ml bottle
3.30/4pm sleep
5.30pm 3 tablespoons of baby food plus bottle (anywhere between 180ml to 250ml)
6.30pm bath and cuddles
7/7.30pm sleep
2.30/3am 200ml bottle
Lather rinse repeat LOL :)
Hi all, and thanks for the replies. My dd has never been the worlds best drinker, so for many months now I have been waking her at 10pm to give her the 5th and final bottle of the day. On occassions when I haven't woken her she always sleeps straight through after her 6/ 6.30 pm bottle. I wake her at 10pm because I always worry that she hasn't had enough milk from her 4 bottles during the day, I am such a stress head :p
Do you think its ok to only have four bottles (which she often doesn't finish) and some veggies for dinner and then let my poor little daughter finally sleep peacefully without me waking her at 10pm everynight?
Thanks for your help. Gosh I sound like such a neurotic mum lol :o

Hi,
Well my little 6 month old girl Lily is the worst for drinking.
She's up at 5:00-6:00 am - bottle 150mls.
Sleep @ 7:30 - 8:30am
Breakfast around 9am - she has 1/4 of weetbix mixed with formula, water
Bottle @ 10am 100 -150mls
Sleep @10:30 - 11:30
Lunch - pureed vegetables usually or banana custard
Bottle @1pm 100ml - 150mls
Sleep @ 2pm
More food @4pm.
Then a bath around 5:30pm and another bottle of about 50 - 100mls and she's in bed and asleep never later than 6:30pm and she sleeps through the night till morning.
I was told by the health nurse to wake lily up for a bottle because she wasn't getting enough milk, though she never cries or seems hungry. I did it once and never again, because it seemed to upset her more trying to settle her afterwards.

My 6 month old is pretty much exactly the same as yours Jonelle!
A big drink would be 150mls, but most are 100mls and at about the same times. Sometimes after solids (pears/apples/yoghurt, struggle with the savouries) he loves a water.
Not nearly as many sleeps though, one 20 minute in the am and if lucky an hour in the arvo!
CHN (who i havent been back to since he was 2.5months) also said not drinking enough- boohoo to her, i've never heard of a bub starving themselves. I watch the nappies (wee king) and poops (sometimes needs a bit of prune juice).
Other than that he smiles all day long and literally does not cry- he feeds himself his bottles and pulls himself to standing on the couch (very proud of himself!) They are all just little individuals with different appetites :)
