Hi All,

I just wanted to say i have reached my goal in Breastfeeding.
When i was pregnant, i thought, yeah, 6 months :smiliedance: is great milestone to breastfeed my bubs to!!

BUT...

Now i have reached 6 months i have enjoyed it so much and have since learned that its best for 12 months and beyond, so continue i will!!

Since around 4 months i have really been struggling with feeding, (not like the first few months was easy either), but DS has been interested in the big wide world and not in feeding.

I posted in the breastfeeding necklaces thread, but i thought those mums that have been feeding their bubs for 6 months and beyond could help with a few tips on getting DS interested in feeding again.

He has just started solids and is ever so keen for them and would rather them than milk, but i know i can't reduce my feeds until 9 months, but i feel like he is already weaning himslef.

Just now, the last feed we had, i tried the necklace i had made a few months ago and he wanted to play with it and put it in his mouth, i persisted and let him only put boobie in and the he happily sucked away whilst feeding. He still didn't get a full feed, but at least its something.

Congratulations! BF is not easy, but if you can manage it, the rewards are all worth it.
I'm only a week or two off my 6 month mark and DD and I still have our days when we just can't quite seem to get it together. But we must be doing something right because DD is nearing 8kg already!

See you at 12 months!

Fantastic feeling isnt it:smiliedance: to reach your goals CONGRATULATIONS

Back to your concern though, he is slowly weaning himself with the introduction of solids, its a normal process. He will be really interested in solids for a while as they are new, then as we see with so many posts the worry starts as the interest in solids decreases (which is also normal). But for us Breastfeeders we have less stress as the boob is always ready to pick up the slack and provide nutrients/immunity/fluid and comfort when ever called apon, be it for 5 min or a good stock up feed of an hour!

Well done on making the 6 months. We too have made the milestone and I dont want to stop. I will let him stop when he wants to.
I am not sure about the solids, we are the opposite, the babe shows an interest in our food or watches while we are eating but isnt that interested when I feed him. Have tried a couple of foods (pumpkin and pear) and he may have a couple of little mouthfuls (most goes over the face and dribbled down the bib). He still loves the boob so I think that I will continue to offer but am not stressed too much. Is that the right thing to do? Sorry to hijack your thread:eek:

Firsty congrats to you for reaching your goal. It is a great feeling.:smiliedance:
Even a bigger  for deciding to continue!
Believe me it is well worth it. I was planning on feeding for 1 year, but dd self-weaning 1 week short of the 1 year. Still, I felt an emense sense of accomplishment. Good on you.

Blueeyes: You are doing the right thing. Slowly introducing solids is the way to go. Even if bubs isn't that interested at first, as long as they are still getting plenty of booby, its fine.

Mumtoone took the words right out of my mouth!

We hit the 9 month mark next Monday!

DD was the same, wasn't interested in mummy milk as much, but after a couple of weeks, as right back to it!
As for the looking around etc, DD is such a stickybeak, that at times, we have to go and sit in the bedroom so she will focus on feeding, especially if we have people over! Might be something to consider?? JMO

6 months was my ig goal too and I felt so fantastic about reaching it. Sorry I can't help with the interest in weaning... my little man is still a total boobie baby!

Thanks to everyone who replied!! You really made me feel good for reaching my goal...

Isabelle's Mum,

I always feed in the quiet now, since 4 months his interest has been elsewhere so i have to go lay down in the quiet bedroom to feed everytime. I also did this quite a bit from day 1 as i had a really fast letdown and almost drowned my poor DS.

I have figured now the easiest thing to do is to wait until he is asleep and he will get a nice full 'dream feed' in that way. My only problem is that he is cutting out some of his sleeps and also if i am out and he falls asleep he won't feed either.
