My eight week old keeps wetting right through his nappies. He's going through about five outfits a day, and I'm starting to get a bit worried (diabetes?). At first I thought it was a dodgy batch of Huggies newborns, so I bought Baby Love in the 4-8 kg range (he's about 4.6 kgs), but he's been peeing through his Baby Love too. Also, it's not the way I'm putting on his nappies, because I've put them on, DH has put them on and my mum has put them on just to be sure. Anyone have an experience like this? Btw, I change him regularly (about every three hours).

Do you have his little pistol pointed down when you put his nappy on?
Just a suggestion

Hee hee! Yes, it is pointing downwards out of danger!! Little boys are dangerous aren't they?!

Where abouts is it leaking from ?

Garrett went through a stage (i think where your ds is at now) of constant peeing.

I agree with everyone else - check the pistol is down (love that kazza :)) - as it with garrett if we havent he has wet his clothes in seconds almost....

When on his side, garrett will wet out the side of his nappy very quickly, i think its because the side isnt really greatly protected.

Oh, my Dh pointed this out when we went through that stage - make sure that the gusset (sp? and right word?) is up, most of the time they sit flat, wefound that if you pulled it up the pee stays in a bit more.

hope this helps...

I also sleep garrett on a bath mat in his cot (he also has severe reflux) so that when the nasty does happen i dont have to constantly change the sheets... so spew and pee is caught, easier to strip that off and wash than the sheets :)

hope this helps.

Thanks everyone. I'll follow all the tips and hopefully it will ease in the next few days! If not, I'll start hassling the doctor!

We had this problem too, when the boys were almost in between sizes, if the nappy was just a little too big or a little too small the would be pee everywhere!

Constant wee-ing in a newborn is quite normal, they haven't learnt to hold it in yet. We found using cloth to be the most reliable nappy system. DS could outwet Huggies in no time (this was in hospital so lucky that I could use their sheets and clothes for the constant changes).

Feels like it when you are 9 months pregnant though!:)

Perhaps try the Bebes nappy inserts...they are an absorbent pad that you stick in the nappy to soak up extra fluid.
They are quite long,so for your little mans size they would fit the whole length of the nappy.Might be worth a try.
Woolies stock them,around $5 for 20.:)

we had the same problem with our DS,i'd try the next size up,this helped us but he started sleeping through but waking up wet so now we actually just use a disposable nappy liner folded up inside the nappy(the kind for cloth nappies) works out a little cheaper, only about $5 for 100.
The only other advice i have is it will get better,Blake was like it for a few weeks then he has slowly regulated himself.

even cheaper than the nappy inserts and does the exact same thing... pads.. just buy a pack of ladys pads, a cheapo homebrand or whatever.. its only $2-$3 for 20 - 25... adds the extra bit of absorbsion and works great... should make a big difference and avoid you having to change so many pairs of clothes... good luck:thumbsup:

The inserts sound like a great idea - I'll try and track some down. I should probably get some anyway for when he starts sleeping longer than 6 hours during the night (although, I know I'm pretty lucky that he does 6 hours at his age!).

All my boys had this, even though I'd pointed them south....but they'd get their little erections before they peed and it would come out the top of the nappy anyway...I used to stick a cotton ball or two on them to prevent the upward fountain effect - so instead it would just soak the cotton ball and redirect the wee southward. (must say this only was necessary when I was using sposies)...
