I am in Kensington (6151), South Perth and am looking to meet others close to my area but not necessarily. I have a 4yr old boy and a 16month old daughter, both gorgeous, both full on. I work mons and tues and still see mums from my original mum's group but it was only ever small and all except one, moved from the area. Would like to get to know and meet other parents (incl my hub meet other hubs for drinks as adults too!!:D ) for socialisising. Am also keen to start a book club as I was in one but it disbanded due to too many of them unable to keep up the meeting (once a month). Currently having a few behavioural probs with my kinder boy so if anyone has any advice (screaming tanties), it would be most appreciated. Cheers, caroline

Hey there. I dont live too far away but I have noticed with children who chuck tantrums if you get down to their level and clearly explain with a neutral tone to the child that until they have finished chucking the tantrum they will not receive any attention from me and I walk away and ignore the child until they stop this tantrum. Once he has finished ask him "have you finished?" then "ok what was it that you wanted? Or how can I help you?"

Children react to consistency so if you consistently react to his tantrums he will keep using them as a ploy to get attention whether it be negative or positive. It may take a couple of gos but if you are consistent he will get the hint. Mummy wont react to me if I behave like this so if I ask nicely and mummy says no then thats that.

My 8 month old has started screaming if he doesn't get what he wants. I just look at him with a plain face and he knows that he wont get a reaction from me so he stops. Daddy how ever reacts to his screaming so he does it more to him.
