Hello,

I am desperately seeking advice and was hoping someone who may have been in a similar situation could help me.

My 5 month old son settles well at night initially, at 7pm he goes down then wakes constantly from about 9.30pm onwards and will only settle while nursing, he'll then go in his cot and pretty much wake every hour, I usually bring him into bed with us because I'm too tired to keep getting out of bed.
I have spoken to several people on the matter who say I must now concentrate on feeding my baby more during the day, 4 hourly as he's in a rut, 'drip-feeding' all night and not hungry during the day. I need to change this.
He also refuses dummies, bottles and food so I'm having troube getting him really full before bed.
This is to be my first night undoing his habitual night feeding, so that tomorrow he's hungry and will feed better all day.
I plan to feed him at 6pm, then put him down at 8pm and wake him to feed at 10pm and leave him the rest of the night.
It seems a bit extreme to not feed him once during the night, and he's sure to refuse water.
How can I do CC but ensure he's not too hungry? I have done control crying before and think it's awesome but it was with my daughter who was an entirely different baby!
I'd be so grateful if someone could help!
Sorry this is so long winded!:ecomcity:

i understand you rneed for sleep. sucks when they wake so often during the night.

i would consider having him medically checked out first, though. he could have reflux and ear infection etc. with reflux the sucking helps ease pain etc, so it may be that when he is lying down, the pain is worse and the sucking makes him feel better. maybe even a chiropractic appointment will help out.

cc is not reccommended for children under 6 months as well.

all the best

Hi, my daughter (now nearly 5 months) was the same, she'd wake constantly all night for a feed and wont take bottles or dummys either. Last week I finally cracked it and decided to do the controlled crying thing, even though I'm inherantly against it. I was feeding her to sleep every time, but on the first night i fed her out in the lounge so she wouldnt fall asleep, then gave her a bath, jammies, cuddle and put her in her cot. i was fully braced for hours of crying, but amazingly she went to sleep after only 20 mins of crying! I went in after 2mins, then 4 mins, then 5 mins.

She would normally wake after 45 mins and I'd top her up with another feed, but on the firast night when she woke I just repeated the procedure, again it took 20 mins, but then she didnt wake up until 3:00!!!! I fed her then and she went back to sleep til 6, which was awesome! She's been great since, and now doesnt wake after tat first sleep cycle either. I'm still feeding her if she wakes in the night, but its usually only once at around 2am.

Give it a go, and just keep repeating to yourself "calm, confident, consistant", it helped me to stay focussed. Oh, and she now seems so much more rested and haappy, and her day sleeps have improved as well.

Good luck!
