View Full Version : High BP & little/no foetul movements
Just went to the dr for my 38 week check-up, and I was telling him that I've had little or no movements for about 1-2 weeks now. Bubs heartbeat was good (around 155bpm) but I have to do a foetul movement chart and go back next Tuesday. I'm lucky to get one movement a day, and that's normally bub stretching. I've tried eating/drinking cold, sweet stuff and laying down, having a relaxing bath/shower.
While there he checked my BP and it is 120/90. I know this isn't very high, but I'm normally around 100/70 or lower. He said he is a little concerned that it's risen like that, and I've got to keep an eye on it. We have a BP monitor at home so I can check on it. He said that if it increases I'll have to go straight up to the hospital, and they'll probably induce me
I don't know anything about this, I have been reading about pre-eclamsia, but didn't think at this late stage that I'd get it. Is it common for your BP to increase now, and is it common for bubs movements to non-existent?

Hi Jodi. Try not to stress too much. just make sure your doc keeps a close eye on you. My baby didn't move much at all, and it used to stress me constantly. My OB told me that he was probably just a chilled out baby. Turns out he was right, my DS is very peaceful and placid, hopefully your bub is the same. Keep doing your movement chart, and stay in close contact with your doc. Keep harassing him/her if it makes you feel more confident. Not long to go now, and your baby will be in your arms making a lot of movements!!

hi i think it is normal for bub to slow down a bit considering there is not much room in there now and its rest time for the big day. when my bp went up when i was over due by a couple of days the dr induced me that nite dont worry if they are concerned they would be doing something about it.. good luck hoowww exciting.
I remember feeling the same as you. I stressed to the Ob that I hadn't felt DD move for a few days. He found the heartbeat very quickly, which was stong.
Remember there's not alot of room left in there for the baby to grow, so it's not uncommon to not feel them as often as you have in the past.
jodi if your really concened you can call your delivery ward and go in and be monitored for 20mins and they see if baby is moving but being 38wks you can deliver now and baby would be fine that is one opption you have if you dont feel good about things before tuesday good luck with your new arrival

Like the others have said, bubs is probably just getting cramped in there:) . And it is possible to get preeclampsia in the later stages, I wasn't diagnosed with it until 38 weeks,I had progessed to the later stages moderate-severe by the time they picked it up and I was rushed in and induced same day. Though Im sure if they thought it was possible they would have done a urine test and mointored bubs before you left.
Not long to go now :yelclap:
I had pre-eclampsia with my 2nd & 3rd pregnancies and was induced for both of them at about 38 weeks. I went through both pregnancies with relatively normal blood pressure and then at 38 weeks, bang! just like that it decided to go up.
I was told because your body is working harder now more than any other time in your pregnancy, it puts that little extra strain on your heart and then in turn increases your BP. As for bubbas movements, things are a bit tight in there now so he/she may be moving about but you won't feel it as much due to the restrictions in there. At least your doc is aware of whats happening and thats the most important thing! Good luck let us all know how you get on !!!

Hi Jodi
My BP was normal throughout my first pregnancy until 36 weeks. I finished work then and took it easy and was monitored at the hospital on and off for 2 weeks. It stabilised and I didn't have pre ecamplisia and didn't need to be induced. I went into labour naturally on my due date. My blood pressure sky rocketed during labour so I was given gas and pethedine.
I'm sure bubby will be fine but it'll help put your mind at ease to see the doctor whenever you're worried and to keep track of bubs movements. I use to drive myself crazy with worry that I hadn't felt the baby so it's completely normal to feel this way, especially so close to the end. All the best
