Ok, this will probably start out long winded ... sorry!
My DD has just turned 6 and from several family members she received a small amount of cash. Normally if it was a few dollars she'd want to put it in her money box, but it was $20 in total and, in her own words "oooohhh! I'm so excited - that's lots of money isn't it mummy?!". After a bit of a discussion she decided she'd like to buy herself something with it. We went to Kmart and she found a few Barbie things she liked but the total was over the $20 - so I explained what she could have for the $20 and how much she'd have left over if she only got 1 or 2 different things etc. Anyway, she bought her stuff and ended up with $4 change, so she got home and hid it. I'm assuming in her money box.
She then thought it'd be a good idea (got idea from friends at school, I think) that she start helping out to earn her own money so she can buy her own things (that I obviously don't want to buy for her!).
So, my questions to you lovely people out there are:-
1) are they too young at around this age to earn pocket money?
2) what are decent chores that could be expected a 6 year old could do and what sort of boundaries are set? (eg if they whinge about doing it, are there penalties?)
3) what is a reasonable amount of pocket money for a child of this age?
THANKS!!!
