Hi all,

wasn't sure where to post this! We've just adopted a kitten from the RSPCA a week ago. We haven't really been TTC actively in the past couple of months due to life circumstances however we weren't preventing it either. When we thought about the kitten DH asked about the whole cats and pregnancy thing, but I assured him that I would build a resistance to it before we had to worry. Yesterday I got my BFP!

Now what do I do? I have never had cats growing up, this is a first for us. As a kitten, it must stay inside for the first 12 months - which means litter tray. Should we find a new home for it before DS and DD get really attached? Or is it ok? So confused!!!! any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

We have a cat too... I'm pretty sure they're fine to live with, it's just the kitty litter that u need to stay clear from which is great for u and too bad for DH who will have to be responsible for cleaning it haha :)

I agree with above comment my friend got a cat after her BFP and the cat is fine with bub!! It is actually a nasty cat and scratches everyone except for her ds he hits it pulls it's tail and it is fine!!

I have four cats and when I was pregnant DH would change the kitty litter trays or if he was at work I would use gloves. Toxoplasmosis occurs after the cat poop is more than 24hours old apparently, you can also get it through gardening etc. You can also have immunity to it already if you have had it in the past.

I think you can get a blood test to see if you have immunity to toxo, and the others are right... It takes a day for the cat poo to be a risk so get your hubby to chuck out the poo every day and just wash your hands after touching the cat.

Hi I have had my kitty all through my pregnancy & have changed the litter tray many many time ( with gloves on ) an put it straight into the outside bin , then I hose out the litter tray once a week to keep it really super clean..

Try not to stress about all the little things ( as they will drive you crazy )

good luck with bubby xxx

Toxoplasmosis can also be found in raw meat and from dirt not just cats!!!

Use gloves if you are concerned
