HI everyone

I'm after some advice, my nephew ahs just been diagnosed with a really bad allergy to some nuts, apparently it's life threatening.

This may seem a dumb question and I think I already know the answer.

He often comes over to play with my kids, does this mean that we shouldn't have any nut products in our house ever just in case they leave a little bit behind that I don;t know about and then don't clean properly.

I would hate to be responsible for any bad reaction but I want to be balanced in what I do and not over react. FYI my DD toddler loves and I mean loves her peanut butter sandwiches.

Thanks for your help in advance.

i would just not serve any products that contain nut traces and possibley contain nuts :) that way he cant eat nuts. remember to read the packets when you are serving him food though some say may contain on them.

I think it is great that you are taking the time to ask about your Nephew's allergies. One of the hardest parts of being an allergy parent is endlessly explaining to people just how serious it can be. I never want to go OTT about it but then I don't want to downplay it either.

My Nephew had allergies, and I never really took the time to understand what it was all about. I feel really bad now having an allergic child myself.

I would say as a general rule you could store away anything with nuts in it before he comes over. Also if you know he is coming over or that you are going to his place, perhaps don't give your kids any peanut butter or other nuts that day. That way you don't have to stress about a reaction from contact. If they do have any peanut butter, make sure that the plate and knife are cleaned up before he comes over.

We wash all of DD's plates, bottles etc, seperate from our normal dishes. This is to hopefully decrease the risk of something being left on the dishes.

I agree with the PP about not serving anything with Nuts or Traces of Nuts in it. This will make things a lot easier and you won't have to stress so much about the kids sharing food etc.
