Hi,

I have a 9 month old son and I decided to wait till end of financial year to get the child payments that some people get once a fortnight(sorry not sure what payment called).

Anyhow I was just wondering how we claim this money.I thought it was done through your tax return but I couldnt find the appropriate section as the baby bonus section in tax return is only for babies born before 2005.

Does centrelink automatically work this out or is it on the tax return but I missed it. Any info would be helpful

Thanks

Hi

Yeah we do the same thing too.

Once both of you have done your tax returns and you've received your Tax Assessments back from the ATO.............you just need to contact the Family Assistance Office (who now seem to share offices with Medicare) and they will work out what you are owed. It's called Family Tax Benefit Part A.

Here is how to get onto them and this site also has good info about the various payments on offer depending on your situation:

I'd say so. If your tax return is complete just call the Family Assistance Office & they should let you know what you need to do & will work everything out for you.
