Hi,
For our first baby we didn't find out the sex until he was born. With our second we found out at the 19 week ultrasound. The Dr (we were told is one of the best), seemed pretty sure about the baby's sex. I just wondered generally how often they get it right/wrong? By the way, we're very happy with what we were told!! :)

from what i have read/been told, if there is an error it usually occurs when you are told girl but get a boy but not so much the other way round. reason being that those little boy bits could be hiding :) whereas if it is a boy then there is no mistaking those boy bits. does that make sense?? i think there is always some chance that you could be incorrectly informed, but i've actually only ever heard of it happening to a friend of a friend of a friend, so i'm guessing taht mostly they get it right!

I think they get it right alot of the time - but people would be surprised at how often they do get it wrong. With my son I was guarenteed twice it was a girl - he could see perfectly and I stupidly bought everything pink and only had a girls name - big shock when my boy was born. My sisters first she was told it was definetly a boy and she had a girl.
I think just to be safe you should be prepared for either way - lots of yellows and white and have names for both - my son had no name for days.

Thanks for your replies. I feel a bit uneasy now, but we have names picked out for both sexes anyway. It's really hard to not get excited, and have expectations when you're told the baby's sex. For me, I suppose having a girl was a lifelong dream. That's not saying I wouldn't love another boy! My first son is gorgeous :)

Sorry if I made you feel uneasy. Definetly get excited just be prepared is all I'm saying. There was a lady around my area who had numerous boys and was told a girl and she was so excited - she had a boy and became very depressed. I just don't want people to get to hung up on what the ultrasound says then be really dissapointed if it was wrong.
I would definetly find out again - and get excited - but I would have lots of yellows just in case. :)

At my 19 week ultrasound, we found out the sex of our baby. I just had to know for sure (I was certain I was going to have a boy). The radiologist had a look and pointed out two small round circles on the screen . . . "These normally indicate . . . " "A boy" I answered. "No . . . it's a girl"

I was so shocked and soooo excited. I was told that it was a very good picture and that she was pretty damn sure, but that she was only allowed to guarantee it 80%. Apparently that is approximately the successful detection of the sex!!! Just in case you wanted a statistical answer!!!

Oh - and she was 100% right for us!!!

Hi,
It's O.K. Kamaikia, you didn't personally make me feel uneasy! :) I wouldn't have posted if I couldn't handle the opinions. There are a lot of boys in my family (siblings, first cousins...). The last girl born to my cousin was in 1984. In our family we often joke about when a girl is going to be born again! It would be extra special because my dear grandmother passed away last year too. I also feel that if I have a boy and a girl, then it's going to be just too "perfect", if you know what I mean! LOL. :D

Hi,

I also waited till the birth of my first child before finding out the sex but this time round I couldn't wait to find out. I have had 3 ultrasounds one at 17 weeks, 19 weeks and 24 weeks and everytime I have been told that I am definately having a boy. I was told that the radiologist/doctor legally aren't allowed to tell you the sex of your child unless they are 80% or more certain.

If you do have a girl this time you will be very lucky. I already have a daughter and am now expecting a baby boy. :)

We werent going to find out either but at the 20 week ultra sound Dh said he saw something that could be a penis :D so he was very pleased even though he said he didnt care if we were having a boy or a girl LOL
I didnt want to just trust DH's naked eye so we had a 3D ultra sound at 30 weeks and we could clearly see everything!!!!

Next time round we'll probably find out as well-I just cant help myself :p

I was told a girl at the 20 week U/S, my Ob thought a week or so before thought a boy and still calls the baby he in appointments (he has an U/S he uses each visit)- the radiologist at the time went into a bit of detail on why was a girl saying about 2 lines etc which were fully visible and there was no way was a boy (unless it had a fanny - his words)

Cause my ob keeps saying "he" i asked a different radiologist at another U/S I had to have last week (30 weeks) her opinion and she said a girl cause could see no boy parts and that my ob was probably saying he cause didnt want to say "it" - though I have told him its a girl.

Its a little confusing when your Ob keeps saying he when hes doing his ultrasounds  and you've been told a girl.

I spose only another 9 weeks to find out for sure ;)

Hi

I found out with my last 2 bubs.

I had 2 u/s with each and they all said girl! So they were pretty spot on.

Either way though i had boys names picked out and didn't buy anything pink just incase ;)

Yeah...i had two ultrasounds with each of my bubs as well, and they all said girls, and they were right. I too didn't buy anything pink just in case!! I think if you have two scans there'd be more of a chance at them getting it right, especially if you see someone different for each one and get 2 opinions....
