Hi just wondering if anyone has any good advise...
my 8 week old has a cold. Woke uo tonight coughing, sneezing, cranky etc and is hard for him to breathe. Its so horrible watching him like that!
I gave him some nose drops and some soothing rub on his chest but am wondering if theres anything else I could or should be doing? He just seems so miserable!

Yup, I hear you... it's heartbreaking, isn't it? At 8 weeks there isn't much in the way of medicine they are allowed to have. We would very occasionally give Sarah some panadol when she got really miserable. During the day I would carry her upright in her Hug-a-Bub while she slept to help her get some rest.

Try propping up one end of the cot so she's sleeping on an angle. You could either put some phone books under its feet, or some rolled up blankies under the mattress.

We've just had an awful snuffly night here too. Ugh. Hope your bubba get better soon!

vapourisers are good. if bub is congested try patting them on the back to break it up as they are too young to cough it up and can struggle to breathe.

Yes they are if you dont have one already I would invest in one they are great & will help to clear bubs nose & chest which allows them to breathe so much easier.
I hope your little man is better soon:)

What exactly is a vapourizer and how does you use it?
I hope he gets better soon too! Poor little man, when I look at him he keeps trying to smile but just starts to cough :(
Im so over winter...bring on summer!
Oh another question... he is supposed to be having his 8wk immunisation tomorrow morning , can he still have this if hes sick??

Hi Michelle,

My doctor also advised to try and keep bub elevated as much as possible. That is, try putting the cot mattress up on a slight angle. Also if you have a rocker try getting it so that bub is sitting up. This helps all the gunk naturally come out and helps them to breathe better. Also if he has any chest congestion try lying him across your lap and give his back a little pat, it helps them bring all the phlegm up.

Hope he gets better soon, it's horrible hearing them all congested.

Take care,

Shontelle

they probably wont immunise him but id take him in to get his chest listened too anyway as when they are young it can develop into a chest infection easy.
a vapouriser is bought at the chemist. about 50 bucks plus. it plugs into the wall. you fill the machine with water and put a mixture in the top. when the water boils it makes the mixture steam through out bubs room. its like the olden days when they used to use boiling water in pots or shove us in a bathroom with the hot water running. the steam unclogs the congestion and the mixture usually smells like eucalyptus.
im not very good at describing things so i hope that helped
