View Full Version : When to quit work?
Hi Guys
Just thought I would get a couple of threads going.
So for those that are working during your pregnancy at what stage are you quiting work?
I have 6 weeks of work left. I refuse to work in my last trimester. Our office is pretty stressfull and totally understaffed so people are always coming in when they are sick. A few weeks ago I got really sick with a chest infection that make my stomach muscles hurt so much that if I was in later stages would have brought on a early labour and I refuse to risk having a Prem baby because some loser can't stay at home when they are really sick (I am serious people are coming to work with fevers and full blown flu!)
I am really looking forward to the 3 month break before coming a mummy. There is so much I want to do but the main thing is to exercise safely (maybe join a yoga class) eat right - don't nearly look after myself enough with working full time and grabbing food on the go, and getting enough rest.
Please let me know what your plans are.
I've had morning sickness fairly constantly throughout my pregnancy, and I was taking so much time off work that I ended up finishing at the end of May. Bub is due 1st September. So that has given me 3 months off. I've loved every bit of it. Everyone told me that I'd get bored being at home, but as I progressed into my last trimester my morning sickness became worse, along with the back pain, sleepless nights, heartburn etc etc!! Having so much time off before bub is due also gave me plenty of time to get everything we need for bubs arrival, plus clean the house inside and out, as I wont have time when bub is born.
I bought a pregnancy Yoga DVD which is great, and take my puppy for walks all the time. It's great being at home by yourself before bub is born, you won't regret it!!
Awesome thanks for your reply - everyone has been telling me I'll get bored too but seriously I say bring it on! Morning sickness hasn't been a problem but I am just generally uncomfortable hunched at a computer desk all day - at least at home I can go lie down or go for a walk and not tied to this computer for over 8 hrs

Oh its great you want to stay active! I was very active whilest pregnant with DS, walking everywhere , doing odd positions whilest cleaning. As for my pregnancy with DD, I wasnt as active and stacked on the kilos :shame: Now im pregnant again and try to walkj everywhere but due to varicose viens and osteoarthritis it is very painful for me.
Bring on your later labour and I will tell u u will enjoy it!:smiliedance:

First up, you're getting married on my birthday next year!!
I finished work when I had 8 weeks to go. Like you, I worked in a pretty stressful environment and I was also working with young children - so lots of lifting and being sneezed and slobbered on!
My plan was to spend the time relaxing and enjoying the last little bit of time before DD arrived... but those plans went out the window when my father had a bad stroke 3 weeks later. He's doing much better now, and I think his little baby grandaughter was the best therapy ever :)
I am 31 weeks and had planned on finishing work this week as I work 12 hour shifts on the other side of the city (making it 15 hour days). I have decided to stay on a bit longer as we could really use the money plus it will make time go faster before bubs arrives. I sit at a desk all day and do get uncomfortable and really tired but I'm going to try and stay as long as possible.

I finished with my daughter at 36 weeks and went into labour 5 days later. The last few weeks at work were very, very difficult and then I really got no time to do anything at home before she was here.
This time I learnt my lesson and I'm finishing next week - I'll be almost 32 weeks. I want to take it a bit easier at the end and hopefully make it to 37 weeks :fingerscrossed:
If you work in a stressful environment like that I think your doing the right thing by finishing early - in my experiences workplaces like that where everyone is a martyr aren't going to give you any extra brownie points for suffering up until the end anyway ;)
Hiya
After we lost our first bub, I never returned to work, so with my second pregnancy I was home for the whole time. I loved it. I would definately recommend finishing work as early as possible. I loved being able to exercise, sleep, and eat exactly when I needed to. And no stressing about deadlines or idiot bosses!!

I had about 8 weeks to go. Bubs came a week early so it was really only 7 weeks I could not have stayed there any longer.
