I had a dream last night about the EPU. I have this horrible feeling that it's going to hurt like hell on earth.

I know you're going to say I've had 4 kids so it couldn't be worse. That is true. No epidurals for me. No pain relief. Even after 2 classical c/s. I am a freak.

But the thought of a needle going up my  and into my ovary makes me feel like an Egg Donor Kebab.

Just need to hear some real experiences.

Oh darl :hugs: I cant offer you any advice; just sending you :hugs:
Are you doing EPU under sedation or a GA? Either way; you'll do fine.
You have the support of C and you're a strong and determined woman......
When is EPU? Will be thinking of you and sending lots of positive vibes. Hope
you get a good pick up of googies for C.

Take care, Peta :hugs:

Hi just wishing you luck,

I've never got to egg pick up but I've had my share of other tests and op's and a friend has been through it, a bit tender is the word, not as bad as a laparoscopy - they fill you up with air and my last one hurt like hell, but on reflection wasnt unbearable so you'll be fine

:hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

Hey

It seems to be different for everyone, from slight discomfort for some to quite severe pain for others...hopefully will be the first for you.

My first two were fine, was a bit sensitive that afternoon and the next day but fine after that, a bit like really bad PMT but nothing that panadol didn't keep at bay. I have no problems with anesthetic either so went to lunch after all three pick-ups, which in retrospect was probably stupid in case there were any repurcussions. Third one hurt quite a bit and was still quite sore a few days later and on panadol.

Not really much you can do but have painkillers on hand and don't be a hero, just take it easy and make sure someone is around do take care of the kids etc. The real worry is over-stimming but seems to happening less often with clinics and REs very careful of looking after likely culprits.....read up on what to look out for and what you can do re drinking lots of water etc.

Maybe have a read through the IVF threads Angel, those ladies do this again and again and again.

xx

Hi Angel
I've had four EPU's. The first two were in my younger days where lots of eggs were retrieved, the last two were last year and only a couple of eggs. I've never had any unbearable pain. No worse than mild period pain the next day - over the counter pain relief will usually sort that out.
The anaesthetic is only very light so don't worry about that. It's nowhere near as heavy as for a 'normal' op (I've had three laps and it's nothing like that knock out/wake up).
You'll be fine.

Hi Angel,

I'm in the 'mild discomfort' category.

I've had 6 EPU's, the last one was done with a technique called 'full flush', and is considered the most full on. Even then, with the 'cocktail' I'd been given I had what I'd call a cramping sensation - much like an HCG.

I think comfort levels can depend on your pelvis shape, more so than how many eggs there are. I have heard women with a tilted pelvis can have more discomfort. If those cases, if it is going to be very uncomfortable the doctor will do under a general.

Also, not to annoy anyone, but I have always bounced back really quickly, and usually have had very little bleeding.

It's totally normal to be a little stressed about this - but they said to me - if you've had an HCG, then you've had the worst.

I had virtually no pain after. Had no bleeding either, not a spot.

I had one sore muscle on my right side where the theatre nurse was probably sitting to try and get my right ovary to come down within reach (it sits quite high), but otherwise I was perfectly fine.

My IM and I took the kids for a walk all around Fitzry Gardens about 3 hrs after my EPU, and I had no discomfort at all.

I was just a bit tired from the general anaesthetic.

Everyone is different though, and you may be one of the unlucky ones who doesnt breeze through. But, TBH, I have read about more women having very little pain or discomfort than women who do.

Hi Angeldoula,

I was so glad to read the replies you had to your thread. As it upset me that you were having a little FREAK OUT. That made two of us, I (Angeldoula's recipient) was freaking out on your behalf. It's the waiting I think, that doesn't help. I was happy to hear, and I agree with the other comments, that the procedures are improving rapidly, and I'm sure the odds of hyper-stimulation have reduced even further in the recent past. And the severity of pain also seems to be uncommon. So I'm going to think positively for you that you will not be in either of these categories! And I feel sure that's going to be true...

I'll give you a call later on today, but I had my hormone blood test again yesterday to see where my levels are, as my period still haven't arrived. Dr Livingstone wants me to have another one in 10 days, hopefully the period will be on track then.

I'm sorry to all that I am unable to get on bubhub often, but i'll try to keep up with it when I can. Thanks to all the bubhub support that Angeldoula receives from you all.

Talk shortly EB.:hugs:

Hi Angeldoula

I've had 3 pick-up's all under general, the pain after was minimal, nothing to worry about at all.

I went with a friend for her pick-up which was done under sedation rather than general, and she didn't seem to be in pain during the procedure - just talked lots of funny nonsense and made the doctors laugh! She didn't even remember it afterwards.

You will be fine:yes:
