Hi All,

Just wondering what you find are signs of a headache in babies since they can't actually say they have one etc..

Apart from being irritable etc I've noticed that EJ grabs at her head sometimes - Shes had a bad cold/croup recently and now i have it now also and I know that it gives shocking headaches. Its only recently thats she started this head grabbing thing alot (since shes had this bug) though I have noticed it in the past also on occaison.

Do other babies do this or am i reading to much into this action by thinking it could be headache related?

This reply might be too late, but I figured better late than no replies at all!

Head grabbing might be a sign of a headache. You could probably also watch for general irritability (that might be stupid advice if she has croup already) and sensitivity to light. It might be something to ask your GP about.

Unfortunately for my daughter migraines run in our family. She is WAY too young to know if she will get them, but when I look at my family history - I have had them all my life and my mum, sister, niece, uncle and grandfather all get them, the odds arent' looking good!

I had a shocker today and she seemed to be more grizzly than normal (or did it seem that way as my head was throbbing) and was rubbing the side of her head and ear. I took some Panandine and gave her some baby Panadol then we both had a 3 hour sleep on the couch - we both woke up in a much better state.

I've often wondered about babies and headaches too. I'm sure DD gets them from time to time. When she's being really uncharacteristically sad or cranky, and I know she's not hungry or tired, then I will occasionally resort to a few drops of panadol and it really does help her.

Migranes run in DH's family too :(

Headaches aren't generally diagnosed in babies yet my son had bouts of painful headaches due to teething, EJ is probably cutting her molars

Thanks for the replies :) I was starting to wonder if I'd asked a strange question since no one had answered

I've found the panadol does help heaps when she's like that - also she does have a little sensitivity to light then also i think (well she reacts a bit when out walking in the pram if the sun's in her eyes)

I don't think she's cutting molars though since she's only just cut her first bottom tooth (well i hope not anyway lol) As the colds easing up she's doing the head grabbing less which is good - I've still got the headaches from the cold though :(
