View Full Version : Which formula for constipation
Hi There
Can anyone tell me if they use Novalac formula? If you have can you give me some info on it please. My daughter is 4 weeks old and has been on SMA and she is constipated. So I have seen Novalac makes a formula for constipation. Can you tell me if can be used from birth or is it a follow on formula?
If anyone else has any other ideas on what formula is good for constipation and tummy aches I would appreciate your comments.
thanks
Hi, I have been using since it first came out on the market, its the only formula that helps my DS2. You can use the formula from birth to 12 months, either as a once only a tin usually last a week or as there regular formula (like we do  ).
HTH, Constipation is awful especially in young babies, it is also important that you go and see you local baby health nurse because they will be able to tell you other ways to help a baby so young. If the bub was older then you could try pears, prune juice and extra water but I am not sure for a four week old.
What formula are you using at the moment, some are more likely to cause constipation then others, S26 Gold is not a good one for babies who are more prone to get constipated. Others to try and not so expensive as Novalac are Hienz, Nan or Karikare.
Best of luck, hope your little one is feeling better soon:hugs:

Oh my gosh, the memories.. I was on here when my DD was a newborn asking the same question (or similar) I had my DD on s-26 gold for the first 2 1/2 months of her life until I realised it infact was that, that was making her constipated. So we switched to Nan HA Gold and are still on it today at 9 1/2 months old. It really worked for us, I hear it is easier to digest too and it is the most closest formula to breastmilk, so that really assured me when I was really down about the whole unable to breastfeed thing. Good luck, sorry i'm not much help regarding those types of formulas.
hi there
thanks heaps for the help.
I have just changed her milk to karicare Goat from birth, the ch nurse said that that might help. but nothing yet. she also said water with a tiny amount of brown sugar.
If i have no luck with karicare i will try novalac or nan.

I would just try plain water by itself first, that can sometime help.
I actualyl went to the chemist and bought a bottle of Actilax, I mixed it in with some water and it helped her go. She was about the same as your bub too.
