I have a three week old boy who has a bad dose of neonatal acne. It is currently all over his cheeks, nose, chin and neck. At first I left it as everyone said it will clear, but it hasn't and it looks agrivated and painful. I researched on the net and found that I could use a tropical cream (thrush cream). This works but it flares up quickly, has anyone found a cream or used anything on their children?
I hope someone can help!!
My little boy had this acne too ... and I know what you mean, when you say it looks aggrivated and painful ! Rest assured, it is not !!
I spoke to my health centre nurse about it quite a bit, and she told me that he was not at all worried about it ... but that it clearly worried me ! It did ... but only because I wanted him to look gorgeous ! I was told that there was nothing that could change it ... and that he would grow out of it - which he did at about 5 weeks.
The only thing I did do, was keep his face really clean, and I also applied a little sorbolene cream after his bath. His skin is just delicious now !
Sorry not to have been more helpful !
My little boy had acne which started around 3 weeks of age. I was told time and again not to worry about it, just keep it clean etc. This went on until he was nearly 18 months old!!! He is now 2.8 years old and still has scars. I have a new maternal child health nurse and she thinks I really should have gone to a dermatoligist when it persisted after 3 months.
So if it doesn't clear up in a few weeks I would take it further.

My neice had this as a baby - was absolutly horrible - my sister found nothing that worked but as soon as she finished breast feeding (around 5 months) it cleared up and now she (6yrs) has beautiful skin.

All 3 of my boys had 'infant acne'. It looks awful but it does go away. Just keep it clean and dry. And have patience.

Thanx I was wondering if it might have something to do with breastfeeding as most mums Ive come across with same condition have been breastfed.. I've also learnt not to over wrap as this make it worse.

My son had the worst acne ever from about 4 weeks till 11wks of age, it was so bad I started calling him 'crater face' when strangers would ask what his name was! "oh this is my son crater face :D " I know I'm a terrible mother LOL :p

My maternal nurse suggested applying breast milk to wherever the rash/acne was and surprisingly it does seem to help.
Bm is a brilliant cure for lots of ills topically applied :D
Hi
My little girl had this from about 3wks for a couple of weeks - it was so bad I thought people would freak out if they looked in the pram and saw her.
Dr suggested fungal cream but after speaking to the pharmacist I just used QV moisturising cream & it went away.
Good luck
