MY 11month old son has been sick for the last week with cold and teething like syptoms. Runny nose, cough at night, high temps , off feeds, irritable and grumpy, diareah. He hasnt had a temp since the middle of last night and hasnt had any dioreah today (sorry tmi) but i have noticed a rash all over his torso. It looks like price;y heat but i doubt it could be considering its winter. Its all over his tummy, back and up the back of his neck and over his head and a little on his face.

I am freaking out as to what this could be. I would think if it was meningococcal he would be getting worse rather then better so i and confused, I have a doctors appointment tomorrow morning but i just wanted to see if you ladies had any ideas of what it could be.

Is it possible to get a teething rash covering this large an area?

I don't have any idea sorry, but if it is covering that much of his body, i'd be taking him to the docs sooner rasther than later, or even the chemist for the pharmacist to have a squiz....just to be safe. Good Luck, i'm sure its nothing though....

I'd go to the drs any way. But last week Cruz had a fever and irritability a little snotty for about 2-3 days, he seemed better after day3-4 but still grumpy and whingy, took him to drs and he said he wasn't sure as there were no other symptoms, then the next day, whilst trying to get a urine sample (just aprecautinary test, as dr was worried to have fever without any other symptoms) and I notices a pink rash, fine dots covering back neck and tummy evenly, so I took him back and dr said a rash like that will usually appear when they are getting over a virus...maybe this is so for you

My DS has had Fifth's disease or Roseola. Which present as temp, cold symptons and then after the fever has come down a rash which is small red dots. He didn't have any dieoreah (sp). It is viral and not treated with anything.

As the PP said go to the Dr, usually if you say a baby is very sick or has a rash they let you have an appointment the same day. I am quite pushy about getting appointments when DS's are sick though:o My understanding of the menigiccocal rash was that you press a glass on it and if it doesn't fade away and the redness still remains you should be worried. PLease correct me if I am wrong about that.

Hope you little one is better soon.

Thanks... i took him down to the chemist and got the pharmasist to have a look at him and she said the same thing as Sara'sBoys said. She said it looked like a viral rash which normally comes out when they are getting over the virus. Makes me feel a little better knowing its nothing serious but i will still take him to the dcs in the morning just to double check.

Hi, My daughter got a rash all up her left side when she was about that age and at firsy the dr said it is hives?? dont think it was as she has never reacted since to anything, then he said it maybe a 'contact dermatitis' .... got some mild cream and it went!
