Hi Friends :hugs:

My DD loves her baths so I bath her nearly every day.

Even though I add oils to her bath and moisturise her after I often wonder if this is making her skin drier.

So out of curiosity I am starting a new poll and would love you to post some advise and your personal experiences with bath time for babies and toddlers with very dry skin.

wow, votes are in but nobodies home lol

I said every 2 days. I also stick to QV products (found in chemists) because there sensitive on skin and moisturise.
For particularly bad times, I use QV Oil, every other time I use the Wash which is like a bubble bath.

hi
we have our 3rd child with eczema... hurray :banghead:
well, we have a bath/ shower once or twice a week, because bubbys skin is just too dry otherwise. i usually add olive oil and after the bath i apply vaseline everywhere- so he is nice and oily all over :)
i apply the vaseline daily, regardless and he is all smooth and not dry at all...
hope that helps

DS gets a bath every night after dinner with QV Oil. He is only allowed a 5 minute bath. We then pat dry and cover in QV Dry Skin Lotion.

Lately, however, he wants showers every night even though he doesn't quite stand under the water. We wash him with just the face cloth, no soap/cleanser. Again, no more than 5 minutes and then coverd in QV Lotion.

His skin is lovely and soft even though the excema flares up in small patches.

We use QV in the bath too now but every second night as DD loves her baths. Other than that we use nothing in the bath as a lot of products can make it worse.
I'm aslo singing the praises of Dermeze at the moment which we use at least twice a day.

Jacob used to get really bad eczema that looked like chicken pox. My pharmacist told me to use QV oil and pinetarsol in his bath and to only bathe him every 2-3 days. I also only left him in there for no more than 5mins because the water dries their skin out really bad.
Used an antihistamine syrup too which helped.

I backed off on the bathing when Ds's eczema got really bad, and it did improve the situation rapidly.

He gets topped and tailed daily, and bathed twice per week, unless the nether regions are just too gross, in which case he gets his lower half washed in the handbasin, which keeps the affected areas out of the water mostly. When I do bathe him, he gets bathed in a mixture of Chamomile and calendula tea, no wash solutions or soap. I bought the tea loose from a herbal shop, and I make it up strong in a teapot, and strain it into the baby bath.

It's made a huge difference.

All up, though, his skin has improved out of sight since I started him on the Dartnell's pahrmacy cream and mixture. He just has a couple of persistant dry spots, and even those are no longer red.

DS gets a bath every second day with some QV oil in the bath, other wise i've found his skin to get very dry if he is bathed daily.

Hope that helps!

And you may have to try a range of things. We tried all the back to basics stuff like oats etc but they made her 10 times worse.

i found Brodies skin actually improved wen we started bathing him every night after tea. we use qv bath oil and he splashes in there till the water gets too cool. we then pat dry give him a massage with the qv moisteriser. he only ever had 3 or 4 dry spots however but atleast they arent red anymore :smiliedance:

I have been using the QV oil exclusively.. I didn't know there was a wash. What is the difference content wise?

Generally, (and this is true for adults also) every time you bathe you take away oil from the skin. In winter the effect is worse, since we tend to run hotter water in winter and the drying out is more prounounced.
I bath Jade everyday in the oil, then rub the lotion on her as part of our massage time after the bath. If her skin is showing signs of irritation then I'll do the lotion in the morning also. After the initial outbreak (about a month sor so ago) we have had no problems with this routine and managed to keep her skin clear and soft. (grass play is usually the culprit of a breakout though)

Every day for DS- he digs in dirt, rolls in dirt and eats dirt whenever he gets a chance LOL

Twice a week for DD- she's only 3 months old.. Not like she's hanging around in the dirt much :D . Too many baths when they are young just seems like a waste of time and drying on their skin. When they are older it can help with making a good, predictable 'wind down time' at the end of the day.

Hi  Thanks for the great replies so far!

I used to bath my DD every day because she loves it but her skin was always very dry (even with QV in the bath and dermeze applied after) so the last week I have reduced her baths to every second day and may even try reducing them more next week just to see if her skin dryness improves.

I will keep you posted and let you know how she goes.

:yelclap: Thanks for all the great tips and advise.

 Hi I'm a newy at this chat thing. Anyway I use QV all the way on my son Kieren who is almost 9 months to prevent flare-ups, it works great. I have also found sweet almond oil good.

How often are you applying the Dermeze?
