Hi ladies
Does anyone else have a really short luteal phase? Is this a problem??
I have a 27 day cycle, but i have been O'ing on CD18 or CD19, meaning my luteal phase is only about 8 or 9 days. Seems quite short!

I used OPKs for last 2 months and discovered that for the 8 months we were BDing by the calendar (those online Ovulation calculators) we'd been missing the O date altogether; often stoping 3 or 4 days too early.

But now i'm worried i'm O'ing too late and maybe there is somthing wrong....

thanks!

I think it can make it harder if it is too short, but I am not sure what they consider to be "short" maybe ask your GP for some advice??

i have heard that if you have a really short luteal phase it can make it harder to become pregnant because your AF can come before implantation can occur.

It is possible for implantation to occur as early as 6 days past o so if your luteal phase is longer than 6 days you may be okay  . Its best to check with your GP or ob/gyn. They will now if it is likely to be a problem or not.

:hugs: to you, hope you have luck ttc soon.

Yes Kali, if your LT phase is only 8-9 then this could definitely be a reason why you are not getting p/g. Implantation occurs between 8-10dpo in 85% of cases, so in your case, AF would come and not allow implanation to take place. But I'm pretty sure there is plenty that can be done to lengthen your LT phase, so its a good thing to have it checkout out as quickly as possible. Good luck.

My average luteal phase was 9 days and I'm currently 15w pregnant after falling first go! I was told as long as it's longer than 6 days it's ok

I think it depends on the individual but I have heard that a short luteal phase is easily corrected - your GP can prescribe progesterone which should help. I'd definitely see your Dr just to ease your mind anyway. Good luck :fingerscrossed:

Oh you guys are amazing! thankyou!! i feel like such a dummy with this whole process; always asking questions of bubhubers but not knowing enough to offer anyone else advice.

i'll def talk to my GP. We are going for bloodtests and spermie test next week (first infertility tests) anyway; so now i have another thing to ask GP about

thanks!

When your luteul phase is to short it can cause you to be infertile. It is easily treated though. Dr's say anything under 10 days is unacceptable. What happens is the egg will not reach your lining before it begins to break down for menstration, and the fertilized egg will not be able to implant because the lining will already be deminishing. It is something you definately should talk to your Dr. about. I have been told that if you find more than 3 cycles have a short luteul phase then you should seek help.

thanks Wantagirl
actually i've worked out that my luteal phase has been 10 days exactly. Seems a bit borderline - but I will definitely go and ask the GP.

It feels better to know what is (potentially) wrong and that its treatable.

Your welcome, lutuel phase defects are a common fertility issue. 10 days is borderline and if you don't concieve without sucess soon, I would definately check into it. You can research herbs on the web and see what is good for lengthening the lutuel phase. I know I have read about some but can't remember which ones. Good Luck on your journey!!

Thanks so much for this excellent thread and the excellent advice. My luteal phase seems short too but I haven't been charting enough to be 100% sure. I think best case its 9-11 days so V&M your experience gives me hope. I got pregnant with my son first go and this time we have been TTC for 4 cycles.!:fingerscrossed:

B6 and Vitex are both cycle regulators. Not sure about taking both at once but if you try one and it fails there's a backup plan ;)
