View Full Version : Rotavirus vaccine
The childcare centre my little one goes to has asked if I am interested in vaccinating my baby with this. I'm doing a bit of research on it but most of the information is US or English.
The CHN says this is a good vaccine especially if your child attends childcare or mixes with lots of other children.
Has anyone had their child vaccinated with this and if so can I ask how much it cost?

i don't have much info on it either, but its something that I would like to enquire into more
Hi
I dont have any info and I'm definately very very cautious about vaccines but having just have a bubs have rotavirus and end up in hospital I would look into it. From what I did read the first lot of vaccines did cause some problems so its worth doing your research.
All I can say is I'm glad DD was 12months and not 1 month old when she got it, its a nasty, nasty virus
I've just done a little bit of reading about the rotavirus vaccine and the first batch in 1999 had been pulled out but they have since improved it.
Article here about it and the new vaccine (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11165427/)
There is some information here about the Rotavix (http://www.gsk-bio.com/webapp/PressCorner/PressDetail.jsp?PressId=10390) vaccine and this is a pdf of the actual vaccine information. (http://www.gsk.com.au/gskinternet/publishing.nsf/4a0f132842ea4d354a25685d0011fa04/98d551e83407aa5eca257169007c94a6/$FILE/Rotarix.pdf)
I just rang my health fund and they pay up to $50 for the vaccine (I think the vaccine is about $170  ) so you are still out of pocket but Rotavirus is a nasty thing to have so it's just something to consider.
Will be speaking to my doctor about it soon because from reading it says to give the vaccine before 6 months of age but there should be a vaccine for older infants?
