Hi! My 7month old baby girl has starting waking up around 2am where she hasn't for months (Usually sleeps from 7am-6:30pm with a little dream feed at 10pm). I'm certain it's teething, my big problem is she won't settle back to sleep unless I feed her, and I'm also pretty certain she's not really hungry. We've tried giving her panadol and some water, a bit of soothing and then sticking her back in her cot but she just screams even if she initially looks like she's sleeping. Last night it was 2 hours before she settled, but with the bottle she's asleep before she hits the mattress. I don't want to re-establish her old habit of waking up in the middle of the night for a comfort feed. Really need some advice here- hubby and I are divided on what to do (he votes feed, I vote let her settle herself- I'm harsh I know!).

Have you tried teething tablets? I found they always made my son sleep well.

We've just gone through the exact same thing with DD (7.5 months) waking between 1am and 2am and not settling without a feed. She too has been an awesome sleeper. We have just been feeding her and then she has gone straight back to sleep, no dramas. We've tried to just let her settle without a feed but it didn't work (and she can normally settle herself without me going in to her). So I've put it down to a growth spurt. She doesn't look like she has any teeth coming in, and she settles straight away after a feed so she's obviously hungry.

She slept straight through last night, so maybe you're right and she is just hungry? So hard to know... And once you are getting that full night's rest it's like murder having to get up in the middle of the night all over again. Has she continued to get up a 2am or settled back into a full night's sleep?

My DD is 7.5 months and she still has 1 bottle overnight. She hates bottles so For her to drink it I know shes actually hungry.

I figure shes doing alot more now so she needs more food. Hey it doesnt bother me im up for 10min for a quick bottlr and back to bed. Some nights she doesnt have it at all

We've had a very similar experience. Any attempt to re-settle DD during the night has always failed. Much easier to feed her and be back in bed within 20 minutes. We know she can self-settle at other times. But its sooo hard to get up and feed when you're used to undisturbed nights, isn't it? Especially now its cold at night.

As for whether it has anything to do with teeth? Probably not. Who knows.
