View Full Version : When do you declare they are officially toilet trained?

I don't really like the term trained, but didn't know what else to call it.

DS2 was 2 in May and has been wearing Jocks since Monday, has been taking himself to the toilet at home and doing wee's and poo's by himself, he went to daycare on Tuesday and spent the whole day dry, the carers were very impressed. So it's now day 4 and he really hasn't had any accidents, if he does a slight wee, he'll stop, tell us and we take him to the toilet. I guess i'm just in disbelief it can happen this early on with no major dramas as DS1 was an absolute nightmare and wasn't independantly toileting till 3 and nighttime dry at 4. So anyone else had an easy kid who just does their business?

As an aside, we have been familiarising him with using the toilet since he was 16 months old and he has always wee'd in the toilet, and just naturally progressed. He's also been in full time cloth so that could have helped aswell. Either way, i'm so totally proud of him :D

For me, I just went with when it was that I no longer had to remind him to go - when he could take care of it himself, knew when to go etc.

He's doing really well! Gotta love it when it doesn't take much effort on your part :)

same thing happened with coop v. he started out and just stayed dry. i dont know when i would say officially TT but coop has now been fully TT with no accidents for a year now and he turned 3 a few weeks ago.

well done to your DS :yelclap:

I dont know the official answer - but I am looking forward to the day when everyone in my house gets to go by themselves no additional assistance or audience required! :D

Wow, that's clever!

I didn't have to really do much in regards to "training" DD either, but she didn't "get it" until she was a fair bit older than your LO!

I reckon you give it a while, and THEN declare fully toilet trained. When you stop thinking about - that's when it's official IMO. I don't think about DD going to the toilet anymore, and I guess that's because I'm no longer worried she might have an accident.

I had similar experiences, DD was TT at 28 months, it was literally as simple as telling her that if she needed to do a wee/poo then to tell us and we'd goto the toilet and putting her in pants. Job done, all toilet trained, never an accident, though it was another 3 months or so until she was TT overnight, in which case we just kept a night nappy on her until she was waking up dry consistently for 3wks then put her in pants over night...never an accident.

DS1 has been the same, he just came to us and started telling us he needed to do a wee/poo so we started taking him to the toilet, he was 26 months when it started and now at 29 months we've still not had any accidents, but he still wears a night nappy and we'll just take the same approach we did with DD.

I think some children just 'get it' and catch on quicker than others. After a week of toilet use and no (or very few) accidents i'd be claiming they were TT ;)

Cool, thanks all :D As i said it's mainly in disbelief that he could just get it so quickly. :) He's been waking up dry from naps with just his jocks on, goes by himself and also lets us know if he needs help. Hoping that the next few days will be the same, but it's really quite awesome. But i'm also a tiny bit sad as i have so many cute cloth nappies that are just sitting there unused now! AND that and my BABY is growing up! :o

Lol @ Noms and KM - I agree! Hate to have all those fluffy nappies sitting there going to waste, gotta get my monies worth. :)

I am totally declaring it too now he's been toileting for 2 weeks, minimal accidents, even wee'd and poo'd on the toilet at daycare yesterday and he got 2 stamps, the carers are very impressed with him. So happy :D
