Why oh why on earth does the Qld Premier - have to have his own private jet, funded by the Qld people? What is truely wrong with commercial flights or paying someone who does it for a living in a remote area??!!:shame:
AND
On the late news last night there was the story about changing cars to LPG and how the governments fleet should be changed as well......why do they need big fancy cars to drive in?!! Why can they not get the cute little Prius (sp) or the Honda smart car (forgot the name of it)??!!
These are just two of many things that really annoy me about politicians......
i have to agree why cant they drive them selves and why do we have to pay for there junkets really dont get me started lol:ecomcity:
Mum23girls, I truly understand where you are coming from I really do but in relation to the jet some of the places that the Premier needs to travel they don't have services that would coincide with his schedule and for him to be waiting around airports it probably would be more expensive if you took his salary into account than using a Government jet. I just don't think commercial services would be very practical.
However I also understand that the Government jet also transports organs and emergency patients around the state to hospitals I have also read that this is the priority for the jet.
With respect to the cars, most Governments used to have a policy to support locally made/and or assembled cars to support Australian jobs however i don't believe it is the case anymore due to the Free Trade Agreement with the US. However, I think over time we will see more smaller cars in the Government fleet and more hybrid models.
Actually the Qld gov does have some Toyota Prius in their fleet, I have seen them around town.
And I would also rather have the Premier (or any top public servants) doing their jobs rather than sitting in departure lounges. And flying to regional centres is beyond a joke, most places you can't even fly in the morning and out again in the afternoon, you HAVE to overnight. Our regional air services just aren't good enough to use for such trips.
Cheers

I'd be happy if all politicians were paid purely on commission...:D

mum23 - do you have a prius or smart car? Are you upset that the fleet is being changed to LPG or that there is a fleet at all? Perhaps JHo could catch the bus?
or get a prime ministers bicycle fleet?
Sassy - politicians are paid on commission, commonly known as 'party donations' or 'bribes'

This is very true.
for him to be waiting around airports it probably would be more expensive if you took his salary into account than using a Government jet. Also probably very true. He'll never win. People will either complain about the fact the jet costs too much, or they'd complain about him sitting around and not visiting enough places.
DH works for gov't, and drives a Prius. Just to clarify, I think the LPG discussions were federal govt, not state.
politicians are paid on commission, commonly known as 'party donations' or 'bribes' Which current politicians are you talking about? I think 'Party donations' are just that, donations to a political party that are accounted for, and are not ever given to politicians for their private use.

I would if I could afford one!!:p I think the hybrids are fantastic and yes, I too have seen the Brisbane city council zipping around in the Prius'!! :smiliedance: Couldn't care less if the Federal govt ran on LPG or not, but seeing on the news a whole line of quite possibly V8 (my hubby told me they would be!) large cars in a row?!! Come on politicians!!!!!! Why can't they drive themselves anyway?!

Only the Ministers have drivers. I would say it is because they are in a position that requires a lot of work, including reading and phone meetings etc, which can be conducted during travel time.
Someone (I don't even remember who) told me that he had bought an ex-government car that has lasted him more than 7 years. because they only use it for 6 months then get a new one.
I think they sell Government cars when they 40k on the clock or when they are 2 years old. I believe the reason is that the this optimises the resell value, I could be wrong but I think I have read that somewhere. Govt cars are usually a good buy.
