Hi ladies,

I really hate to ask this but can anyone give me any advice on how to get rid of the most horrible constipation I have ever experienced in my life!!

I am drinking litres and litres of water, eating dried fruit, cereal - everything with huge amounts of fibre and yet... still no movement... and its so so painful :gloomy:
Yesterday I tried eating whole lot of liquorice - I was told that was good too - but still no luck - I have also since found out that liquorice isnt such a great thing for Pg women to eat, according to some internet sites studies found it can couse prem babies.

I also have read that you shouldn't take laxatives or metamucil as it can upset or irriate the uterus.

HELP

I used a natural fruit laxative called Nulax with all 4 of my pregnancies, it is safe to use whilst PG.
I would have been constipated for the whole 9months if I hadnt!!! LOL:laughing:

personally i've found having porridge for brekky every morning has helped me in this department

also having wholeGRAIN foods (tiptop 9 grain bread is great) instead of just wholemeal .... your body has to work harder to process the wholegrains which helps everything run smoothly

Hey fellow Feb mum! I too have been backed up and it's not pleasant is it?! I've been drinking benefiber and it's been great. Safe to use during pregnancy and has no taste at all. I hate drinking things but I just add a teaspoon of this to my juice in the morning and another one with my juice when I get home and I've been fine. I was ok for a while so I stopped taking it (:shame: ) and now I've had to start again because things have slowed right down again! Highly recommend benefiber

Everyone recommends brown sugar in water for babies, but does anyone know if it works on adults as well??

I don't know about brown sugar in water but I do know if I have a coffee straight away in the morning it works. I didn't drink coffee during my first two pregnancies and suffered horribly I figure one coffee a day won't hurt for a little relief

I have taken Nulax a few times too. My problem is more wind pain and IBS (rather than constipation).
I try to eat lots of grains and seeds and drink heaps of juice. But I don't think my bowel will return to normal until after the pregnancy
