Tonsilitis?

My 2 y.o. was diagnosed with tonsilitis (sp?) 3 weeks ago and prescribed antibiotics. The poor little thing was having temperature up to 41.7 and was hot as a stove.
I gave the prescribed medicine to him and he eventually recovered. In two weeks time we are back at square one. Same symptoms (very high temperature, red throat, red ears, etc). The doctor prescribes another round of the same anibiotics.

I am not thrilled at the idea of feeding my son antibiotics every 3 weeks :thumbsdown: . Has anyone had something similar? May be my doctor is wrong? Las night was an absolute hell with my son having 41.5 and going to 40.1 after panadol. We all (him included) barely slept last night. Light clothing, sponging, etc did not give any relief.

If I were you, I'd go to a different doctor and get a second opinion. If the antibiotic didn't work the first time, then the bug has either built up resistance to it or it wasn't the correct diagnosis or drug.
In the mean time, make sure your little man is getting plenty of yoghurt because anitbiotics destroy the bodies good bacteria as well as bad and he needs the good ones - especially at a time like this. The yoghurt will help.

I hope your son is better by now. Did you get a 2nd opinion? I'm fairly sure that tonsilitis can recur, although having it again so quickly is a bit odd. I hope he doesn't need his tonsils out at so young an age :(
