Hi guys,
A little help please......
Okay, my bub has been screaming, and i mean SCREAMING over feeds this past week...
Someone suggested to me that it could be silent reflux. And the more I think about it, the more it seems plausible.
He has all the symptoms of teething, except for bright red cheeks....if you look at the symptoms seperately some of them are just development things....like sticking everything in his mouth, and being really clingy to mummy.
If you think of the arching and screaming when feeding as a seperate thing..........
How do you deal with silent reflux? Any hints on things I could try?
Also, I read online that dairy allergy or intolerance can make it worse.....I havent had to deal with this before...and it just dawned on me that its just over 2 weeks since I introduced a bottle of formula....and his fussiness has slowly gotten worse since then......
Any ideas? I'll stop the formula today....maybe get some goats based formula....???
I was alergic to dairy as a child, so maybe Oliver is too?
HELP HELP HELP! Last night all I could do was cry as my baby screamed and screamed....screamed cause he was hungry, and screamed when he was feeding.
I took him to the Dr who checked his temp and everything last week when he started to really fuss, and my CHN said it could be a sign of teething begining.....but I dont know anyone else whos babies were THIS bad when teething!

Hi Kat - as a mum of a bub with both dairy intolerance and reflux... I feel for you! You poor thing. Do you have a paediatrician? If so, I would definitely make an appt.
Did you eat dairy when you were BFing? I did and Kade was TERRIBLE, the only way we eventually realised he was intolerant was by his incredible trouble doing number two's and then the revolting smell of rotten eggs!! Sorry if TMI. He's now on a prescription formula which is non dairy based and no longer has any trouble in that dept.
In regards to the reflux, watch Ollie and see if he seems to be swallowing alot - that's one of the signs of silent reflux. Also, does his breath have an acidy smell? Kade's reflux started as silent but is now full blown normal - which makes things very messy! Ollie made need to go onto some Zantac to help.
Good luck! It's so upsetting, so if you ever want to talk I know exactly what you are going through. And funnily enough, Kade was nearly called Ollie! In fact, we're still thinking we'dd use it for number 2 :)

Ok dont change his formula just yet i would wait to see your doctor again if possible before swapping & changing this.
Silent reflux is a bugger to have let alone have someone pick it up cause many doctors dont see it if your g.p isnt giving you any answers & O is still doing all of this in a few days i would ask for a referral to a pediatrician if you havent got one already.
Anyways for now prop his bed up a little by sticking something under one end of his cot or mattresse just so there is a slight slope, make sure he stays upright after a feed to allow enough time for his tummy to settle these are sure fire ways to help especially with silent reflux but it may help a little.
As Kade's Mummy has said does he swallow lots after a fed or even little gulps & usually he will burp & sometimes get a horrible look on his face from the acid rising. If you watch him a little more closely you might see the signs.
It may just be wind or colic but i would really take him off to the doctors if you not happy hun its better to keep pushing them to get some answers.
Good luck :hugs:

my little girl had really bad reflux and i was up most nights with her, my homeopath had me put her on karicare de-lac formula and the change was amazing within days as she was previously on karicare gold. she stopped majorly puking and the constipation went and her reflux settled down to just mild wind which she gets here and there.
2days ago i decided to try her on some of the heinz nurture gold as i really wanted her to be getting the omega 3 but for 2days now she has been up with severe wind and reflux so im back on the de-lac and trying to get the other stuff out of her system again.
Perhaps you could try a homeopath and see what they have to say, i also took her to a chiropractor which improved her wind greatly.
A product called marina infant mixture is fantastic also,i swear by it.

I hope you get to the bottom of it as i know how stressfull it is.:hugs:

Thanks guys!
No gulping...so maybe its just intollerance to the formula...???
I might stop formula for a few days and see if it improved.
I sat him UP to feed him this time and he gobbled down 80ml without any worry, then refused the rest, but no screams!!!!
Will wait another 10 minutes or so and offer again!

Kat if he prefers to feed sitting up then keep doing this it unfortunately sounds like he has wind !
Which inturn might also be partly colic so keep him upright for his feeds & try to give him as much tummy time as possible & also try to burp him with him laying across your legs cause the pressure will help relieve his tummy a little.
Another thing to maybe try is a different type of teat on his bottles so he isnt gulping too much air when feeding & you can also get a colic relief formula from your chemist or health food shop by Brauers. I would give this a go or even the stomach calm & see how that goes.
Good luck hopefully you can work out whats going on soon as it sounds like your slowly finding out what is working etc.
sounds like things aren't as stressful now but I just thought I'd let you know about losec. It's a prescribed medicine for babes with reflux. Both my boys had both silent reflux and projectile vomitting (lucky me! not) and losec was the only thing that eased it a bit.
