Hi, I have a BMI of 33 which is obese. Should I have lapband surgery to lose a lot of weight prior to IVF? I think my window for fertility is only 12 months.
I had a rather high bmi when I did ivf can't remember what it was but ivf worked first go for us (very lucky). I was only 24 at the time. Anyway that's my story HTH I have heard some clinics refuse treatment for overweight people but you just need to find the right one :hugs: of course it's always better the healthier you are. Good luck :fingerscrossed:

I also classified as o/weight / obese but I fell preg naturally with my ds and we are now on ivf process and FS has not once mentioned my weight being a cause. I think the best bet is having a consult with a FS
Hi, I have a BMI of 35 and not once was it mentioned as a problem by my FS. The only thing he said was it might of been harder to do the egg pick up, but on the day all was fine and he got 12 eggs.
I was also very lucky and got pregnant on my first go. As 2nd baby said, go have a consult with a FS and talk to them about your concerns. Lap band seems so scarey, but thats just me :D
Cheers Spoo
I wouldn't go for a lap band without trying other things first. It's very permanent. Personally I'd try optifast 3 times a day instead - usually has good results if you stick to it. I lost 14kg in 3.5 months 2 years ago and that was just on twice a day optifast with a low carb evening meal. Pregnancy is a lot less risky if you are not obese when the pregnancy starts.
BUT you cannot still be on optifast when you start on IVF - it's not enough energy for bubs to grow.
I've unfortunately developed an allergy to optifast and I'm trying to lose 5kg before I start TTCing as I need to be below my starting weight from my last pregnancy before getting pregnant this time (I had gestational diabetes and a few other issues last time). So, I've just started an Atkins like diet. Hope it works.
i was turned down yesterday on my first app at the clinc was told i need to lose 20kgs befor they will even do any tests i am 110kgs and was not told that there was a weight limmit so after waiting over 2 months for the appontment was devo with wat the doc said

There is no way I will ever believe that weight is a factor to fertility. As much as I love watching The Circle and don't want to sound mean, if Chrissie Swan can fall pregnant TWICE at her weight then so can anyone else. I am slightly overweight but then again, unless you're a model, we all are and not many people have the perfect figure. I think that when a FS or DR sees an overweight person wanting for a baby they automatically think that they are having problems due to their weight, what a load of crap!!!!!!!!
Bubless - sorry to hear you have been turned down because of this so called "issue" and what a shame they didn't pre-warn you before your appointment. Maybe see a 2nd opinion from a more compassionate FS/clinic? Good luck to you and best wishes to you :fingerscrossed:
