View Full Version : Signs of Implantation
I am 35 and my wife is 31. We have not been taking any precautions since we got married in Dec 2001. We have consciously tried on and off for the last four years, excluding last year when I underwent a kidney transplant (Thanks Mum). Just before the operation we went and got tested and found out that I have low sperm count (motility etc) - having had that combined with the kidney failure made me feel like I was a complete failure. I am normally a very positive person but this really shook me.
I am now recovering \ recovered :) from the transplant so we decided after a few more months trying naturally that we would begin IVF\ICSI with Sydney IVF.
We started on June 6th with 9 eggs retrieved on Fri 18th. 7 of these were good and to our astoundment all 7 fertilised. On weds 23rd we had a blastocyst (grade 1) transferred. I am glad it was much more easier than the retrieval which my better half found quite tough.
I'm at the stage of getting to my question now but already feel better for having typed out a quick synopsis of our story ( I dont think I have done the heartbreak justice). Last night , the 24th, my DW (Dear Wife??) asked me to cook one of her favourites , a veal parmigana with loads of veggies. She was convinced it tasted funny however to me it tasted completely normal. She then felt a bit breathless, crampy and really cold. We rang the after hours number and explained the symptoms being quite worried about OHSS. The nurse suggested there was no problem as long as it didnt get worse. It improved after a few hours and even suggested it may be a sign of implantation.
I just so want it to be implantation. We would be so happy even if we could only have on bub. My wife will be a great mum and I just so hope my failings wont prevent her fulfilling her potential.
The blood test is scheduled for July 3rd, one year exactly from my transplant - A sign that our baby is ready for this world???????

Cantona-Hello & wow what a journey you guys have had already.I dont want to get your hopes up either but it does sound like a very good chance at implantation.I had 2 blastys transferred 1 was day 5 & the other was still a morula day 4 little bit slower. Transferred on the monday, tuesday i was shivery, cold & tingly all over & thought ohh im coming down with a cold or embies implanting, then on the friday so 3 days later i felt it all over again.Yes were pregnant with twins & scans showed there exactly 3 days behind each other,i did have implantation symptons.I also had salmon coloured Crinone (sorry for TMI) LOL not sure if your DW is on Crinone. So anyway from that saturday onwards (till now 9 weeks) ive had M/S 24/7. Which i never had with any of my other children nor even my other set of twins ive got.So best of luck.... im sure if youve got yourself a + you can test in a few days & you will get a BFP.Sending some :goodvibes: & :babydust2: to you & your wife. Will keep my eye out for your result :fingerscrossed:
I'm not sure if it's a positive sign or not, this road leaves us double guessing every little twinge, but I do hope it is and that you both get the miracle that you've been waiting for. I just wanted to send good luck your way :babydust2:
Thanks nikki08 and plsjust1more. Five more sleeps till we find out. Good luck with your journeys too.
am going insane. Three more sleeps.:hair:

Hi Cantona,
when I read your post I just had to reply. My DH was on dialysis for over 10 years before we got a transplant April 2008. It has changed our lives so much. It is such a huge gift that your mum has given you. My DH's dad donated one of his kidneys about 11 years ago but it only lasted for a couple of years and this is his second transplant. After we had the second transplant we looked into our options of having a family again. As you know we thought that a transplant increases fertility but this is not always the case and there are always other issues and my DH has low sperm motility too. We went on to do 2 full stim cycles with SIVF too and are now 20 weeks pregnant with our miracle baby that we never thought that we would have. I just wanted to wish to the best of luck on your journey because I totally understand the heartache that you and your DW have been through dealing with kidney failur and dialysis. I don't know if I knew when implantation occured but I know my pregnancy symptoms included spotting, toe cramps and shakey hands. All the best on your IVF journey hope it s short and sweet.
Thanks for the replies. An update :
Tues night my DW felt all crampy and was sure her AF was on its way. Yesterday I got her onto some of these sites to show her that many people still get BFPs when they think their AF is near.
Yesterday afternoon she had lots of lower back pain and then said the banana she was eating tasted mettalic.
Like so many girls i have read about over the last few weeks we are not sure are the symptoms real or are we searching them out for a sign of hope.
I so want to ring mum on Saturday night (Sat morning Irish time) and thank her one year on for giving me a wonderful gift and then surprise her with the news that she will have to come visit her Aussie grandkid. Please, please.

Cantona I'm thinking if AF hadn't arrived yet then you're in with a very good chance. SIVF do BT 11 days after transfer and my AF always arrived 3-4days before BT was due on my failed transfers. Goodluck.....
AF due tomorrow.
I wish that we would do a HPT but my more patient wife says there is too much hurt associated with them always giving the wrong answer.
Whatever happens we are a team however I hope Saturday we are a winning team :hugs:
and on Sat, hoping it is a BFP, do they tell you the HCG and Progresterone levels?
Hi cantona, good luck to you and DW!
This cycle, I felt I was getting AF and that was the only symptom I had, as well as my sense of smell becoming really sensitive. It was our first BFP.
They should tell you your HCG and progesterone levels. I make a point of asking for all my hormone levels after all BTs throughout my cycles and write them down. If they don't tell you, just ask for them.
Best of luck :fingerscrossed:
One more sleep. AF has not arrived however my Mrs is convinced that it has not worked. She can't even look at me. Scared!:dizzy:

Cantona - So sorry. The downs are really low with IVF. It reallys hits you badly when cycles don't work out but you're most likely one step closer to your BFP. It usually takes a few cycles to reach a BFP.
Catona - I'm so sorry :hugs: It's an exhausting road. Maybe do something special together as a couple to ease the pain a bit. I remember my first BFN and DH booked a night at a nice resort with cocktails and a spa treatment, it didn't take away the pain but it gave us both the energy to look forward again to the next attempt. It also helped us appreciate we were doing this as a couple. :hugs:
Thanks for all your thoughts. A month break and then on to FET.
An update, transferred in a FET on 23/8. My DW had acupuncture weekly with Sue Booth (Syd) and last night and this morning :bfp:
Official blood test tomorrow. What a feeling!

Cantona- WOO HOO CONGRATS TO YOU BOTH.Bet your on :cloud9: enjoy it totally :yelclap::party: Great results guys
DW had real sharp cramping last night which woke her up. Went in and had another bloods and HCG has gone to 2100 (from 370 four days ago) so hopefully it is just the bub getting comfy!
Cantona- would you please update? I have just read this and my heart was in my throat reading the thread an results?
My dh had a kidney transplan 3 years ago (8 yrs dialysis and a dead person's organ), and we had out baby boy through Ivf in June. Just giving you some hope!
Would love to hear where you're at.
Hi Tulip79,
I am glad to say the pregnancy is developing beautifully. Our little girl is due May 11 (19 days - not that i am impatient).
Reading back through the thread relives some of the emotions - it seems like along time ago now.
My DW is finished work and doing well. She has been getting crampy the last few mornings. It looks like her body is getting ready so who knows when bub will come.
We are very haapy and dying to meet thhe little one.
I hope all the people who were on this thread are well.

Cantona not long to go until you welcome your precious bundle!
Tulip- our stories are so similar, DH on dialysis for 10 years, transplant in 2008 and our little IVF (girl) miracle born november 2010
Cantona- how awesome! Best of luck for you and dw on the arrival of dd! Let us know how you get on once you're all settled :)
Dragon- wow, ten years is just heartbreaking, especially when you're told 3 years to begin with (in vic anyway). Hope your dh is doing really well and you're all thriving! Did you or dh have a specific infertility issue that required Ivf? (you don't have to answer). For us, it was just not happening, despite getting the ll clear.
Hope your dd is thriving and you're all doing wonderfully.

Tulip we did IVF due to low sperm motility, I don't know if it was due to renal failure or not but it wasn't happening for us either but even though they said a transplant increases fertility nothing happened for us therefore IVF. Being on dialysis definately is not fun and we are so blessed to get the transplant and extra blessed with our precious bundle. Having a transplant sure is life changing as you would know. We are very fortunate.
I am so delighted to welcome Emma Margaret Moloney to you all. Emma was born on 19/05/11 at 7.51pm weighing in at 9lbs and 54cm tall.:celebrate:
She is so perfect I am not convinced she is mine
We are so relieved to meet her after all these years. It does not mean that every day is easy and it is not a major adjustment but woh what a wonderful feeling.
Wishing everyone gets to be as happy as I now feel.
