View Full Version : feeling guilty over bad diet due to morning sickness!
Hi, new to bub hub but desperately needing some reassurance! I am 10 weeks pregnant and have had morning sickness all day for the past 5 weeks. I know it is not as bad as some as I have only vomited twice so far but I am feeling truly revolting all day and night. The thought of vegetables turns my stomach and I can't even prepare decent meals for myself or my 2 poor kids (my husband usually picks up my slack when he gets home from work). I am ok if a meal is put infront of me but can only eat vegies in the form of; peas, corn and carrots. Junk food has been my staple for the past few weeks as it is cheap, easy and mainly bland! I am starting to feel very guilty and am starting to worry that my baby is not getting enough of the good stuff (even though I am taking supplements, when I can face swallowing them!)
Can someone please tell me that I am not a bad mum!! This is baby number 3 for me but the first time I have felt this sick and emotional. It is really starting to get me down and I can't see it ever ending!
It would be great to hear from someone who has gone through a similar thing.

Def nit a bad mum, I lived off cr@p food for weeks cause it's all I could stomach. My kids are just fine.
Bub will take what they need & leave you with the dregs.
:hugs: congratulations on your pg!
Try not to stress, bub takes all our nutrients from us if they need them, eating crap for a few weeks isnt going to hurt bub, but might make you feel worse for wear!
I still have very nauseous days and eat vegemite on toast for most meals, sometimes id rather hurl and then feel better!
Im sure bub is just fine and dandy in there sucking all your supplies

The baby will take all it needs anyway, so you are not denying him or her anything.
You are definitely not a bad mum  I've had 2 pgs with terrible ms and you do and eat what you can just to get thru the day and have food in your tummy.
You and the bub will be just fine :)
yeah, i think i lived on cheeseburgers and fanta for 2 months :haha: well not that bad. but seriously, its better just to eat what you can than nothing. I'm sure once you get to the second trimester you'll eat better!
I lived on crap when pregnant as that was what I felt like eating. Bub was fine. Make sure you take a good pregnancy multi vitamin though.
Thanks guys! Really having a down day today. I'm sure my bad diet isnt helping with my moods. At least I had a few vegies tonight... on my pizza!! Just need to keep thinking about the end product. Thanks again for helping me to feel normal!

Hi Jetsy
Sorry to hear you are having a hard time. I am currently 22 weeks pregnant and like you I was sick from 5 weeks, all day nausea was not fun. I ate what I could when I could. I lived on alot of bland foods too. It truly is like a parasitic relationship because bubz takes all the good stuff and what it needs and leaves it's host with not much
It will get easier and I do understand how hard it is not just physically but emotionally too.
don't worry about bubs they will be just fine like a PP said they are parasites and get all they need.
I'm 18weeks and been horribly sick (vomiting usually 12times a day) and my bubba is growing as per usual and kicking around all happy all the time.
Eat what you can when you can.
I eat all day every day in the hope that something will stay in - - not sure a lot of the time but it must be getting all it needs
:hugs: sorry to hear you're feeling so bad. I can tell you I barely ate more than a few hundred calouries a day for two months and threw up constantly. I had a scan on Monday and my baby is very healthy and measuring a week a head. They're lde suckers, your baby will be fine, unfortunately it's your health that suffers. You're not a bad mother, I swear my son would starve if not for DH. I can barely prepare a decent meal without throwing up. I'm 13 weeks today and I'm managing about 800-1000 calouries a day and slowly getting better. I'm eating what I feel like because I know any food is better than none. Can you try buy some V8 juices? I bought lots of fruit and veg ones and I sipped on them or turned them into ice blocks. On a good day I blended my own.
I would get DH to cut up lots of fruit and vege and put it in Tupperware and when I could I put it in the juice maker. It made me feel a little better and I'd blend up lots of orange, add a carrot and root Ginger and it help the seedy feeling.
Don't beat yourself up :hugs: I hope it eases for you soon.
bubs will be fine, in my pregnancies for the first 3 months i pretty much live of mcdonalds. nothing bets a bacon and egg for breakfast with a coke and then its a cheeseburger with no meat and coke for lunch and dinner. its amazing how mcdonlads make you feel so much better. i recommend it to all my friends who suffer from ms.

I lived on Red Rooster Chicken Dinners with Chips and Vegemite on toast with a cup of tea when I was UTD with DS1 (for the first 13 weeks anyway) a horrible horrible diet looking back but it was something, better then nothing.
Your not a terrible mum  but I would recommend trying some medication/herbs to try and ease it.
